I think this is what I was getting at,
Open science about the risks, backed with the science / data and you give people informed choices.
Laws cannot keep up with science.

In the UK that would probably breach the trade descriptions act.
Food laws have been updated here so that all ingredients have to be listed even on shop made sandwiches, this is to help people with allergies avoid items that have known allergens in.
It helps everyone else too, but hopefully will avoid people dying from eating products containing something they are allergic to.

This is surely where legalisation / regulation comes in, you know what your getting / paying for.
However with the dark drug market surely people should also be taking some degree of self responsibility too. You know the risks, you chose to take them. Government as you say can / should only go so far.

I would apply, but sadly they're only interested in people able to work from the USA.

Hey, #fediverse! I'm doing some research on the uses of Federated software by non-governmental organizations. I'm curious to see if NGOs use federated tools (especially Mastodon, but any fedi tools) to organize outside of corporate systems (e.g., Google, FB).
If you have tips, please send them my way! DMs are fine, and I will not publish names outside this space without consent.
Boosts appreciatd.

Wasn't the alternative to Hiroshima trying to invade Japan. Nagisaki was bombed to try and also force Japan to surrender. Not sure if Japan would have surrendered anyway once they had come to terms with Hiroshima.
Given the loyalty to the emperor any invasion may have resulted in the loss of 100,000 allied lives. (or that is the numbers cited as being needed)
If nothing else those bombs taught us the true horror of atomic warfare.
One thing we can probably agree on is that all this is very complex.
But yes the war had long term effects,
Didn't the US not enter the first world war until the sinking of the Lusitania which as that had US citizens on board, brought the US in to the war. ?
Given the conversation earlier about the west trying to impose on other countries, perhaps having an America / Britain (other country) first policy would be good if we focused on getting our own house(s) in order BEFORE trying to lecture other countries on how to do things.
So lets sort out the fact the UK has a high knife crime rate in the UK before telling the Taliban they are barbaric and uncivilised in the way they do things..

Good point, this was back in the early 90s I can't remember precisely what was said.
@rixty_dixet Is there any actual truth to the idea that Texas wants or wanted to leave the Union.?
They seem to want to do a lot of things differently to everyone else in the rest of the US.
@ARCONITE That is seriously close eh

Well yeah, good point, for once the mirror is more upbeat
I think ALL media should focus more on the FAILURE again of social services and other agencies. We have had the death of 2 children under 6 years, both of whom were beaten by parents, social services told and did nothing.

A great example of how main stream media reporting seems to be more about grabbing headlines than reporting FACTS

This is the usual scaremonging crap we get in the UK, sure covid is Serious, but apparently no one has yet died. One death but there seems to be confusion as to if that person died OF or WITH covid - omnicran
Also the same issue deaths + underlying health conditions and deaths within 28 days of a +ve test, so that suggests test positive, get ht by a bus and you die from covid.
2 graphucs one showing the south west as yellow, that suggests that there are no cases in the south west, another graphic showing south west as 12. something percent.
The former map they have not even put in a key to say what the colous mean.
Has journalism got so bad now that we can't just report factual information. ?
Meanwhile the whole lot of this is going to have a massive impact on our economy.
Just ridiculous,
