We have accounts here with pictures of naturism, (shock horror naked people) but content is hidden and need to be clicked on to be viewed, text before suggests content. Users have that choice to click or not.

At the same time, by our own admission there are instances that host far right, racist and similar content, this is contained to specific instances which can be blocked, we carry a list of such instances, so new instances can federate and include block lists. Instances are also open about their policies. You know what you are signing up to.

This is only possible as we are not profit, data orientated. Anyone here can be part of the decision making process for new features.

What is also concerning is the fact this so-called 'expert' was totally misinformed about both Discord and Mastodon. These people are in a position to influence policy in some cases, so any advice needs to be accurate, and based on evidence backed facts.

I agree, I do feel it is safer here, we have the tools / means to block abusive accounts or even servers fully, or just mute for a period of time, and as you mention the ability to report concerns.

Given the recent Intel leak in the US was to a Discord room called Thug Shaker Central, could say something too.

We know WhatsApp was popular with the MET police for sharing mysogomy and other abuse, Twitter is now so out of control they seem to admit it is no longer safe.

I think the most important thing we have done, is admit we are not perfect, rather than pretending everything is fine. We can't elimiate abuse, we can just help users stay safer.

Maybe back in 1922, the firstr world war, was still fresh and raw in peoples memories, people died to keep freedom, so perhaps this was a big factor in why the riots started too.

Fast forward to 2923, we take our freedom for granted, not imagining it could be taken away from us, we are complacent, as two world wars has failed to do this, so the GOP and others are trying a different tactic, eb away at freedoms slowly but surely, filling our news, social threads with (mis)information so we don't notice what is going on, and ensure the education system does not encourage critical thinking and questioning.

I am from the UK, This still affects everyone in the world, so hopefully once identified the person responsible can be held to account and punished so that it sends a message to others.

The whole system needs cleaning up, the UK has the same issue, with leaks from government meetings etc, information that should be subject to privacy, confidentiality or of national security level importance.
