@Meat_Bucket

It won't solve anything until you can fix the root cause of why these shootings take place, other than access to guns, it seems many of these people have issues, either mental health or otherwise that is left to fester until they explode with rage.

In some cases people who don't fully fit in at school for example, are bullied, and this keeps happening, no one listens, no one acts, until the victim just gets tipped over the edge,

Who is to blame? The victim or those who targeted them? Sometimes people keep to them selves, don't mingle with the majority but find solitude in technology, drawing, painting or other activitiy that is more for a single person, as opposed to group activities. For this they are lablled weird, loner, loser or some other negative lable, when they are actually intelligent or perhaps above average, just find it hard to be with other people.

Ass guns to the mix, a health care system that seems to care more for profit than lives, lack of mental health support and you seem to end up with a ticking time bomb.

It also seems in some cases the shooter kills themselves or is shot by police or someone else, meaning we never find their true motive, but pick up bits from what is left over.

Incredibly, Twitter has now made it impossible for public safety bulletins to be posted automatically by weather services, tsunami warnings, the MTA etc. This is consistent with Musk’s particular lack of interest in public service. But it also highlights the general problem of building networks on private property - precisely why we need Mastodon and other open source apps to take their proper place at the center of our online communities

Are these things really a good idea? After all, doesn't exposure to dirt / bacteria help our immune system develop.

Over the past few decades we have become 'cleaner', while at the same time, it seems allergens have increased, that were either not know about decades ago, or never existed.

Can anyone with proper 'expertise' in this area comment further

👇Evidence that portable air filters with UV sterilisation removed SARS-CoV-2 (& a range of other bacterial, viral, and fungal) bioaerosols from the air in a COVID-19 ward.

(😳🤢 a surprisingly wide range of pathogens from the air!! 😷)

@bullivant Richard Dimbleby's BBC report on Belsen after its liberation is intense. What he we was reporting was so extreme they didn't want to broadcast but he threatened to resign if they shelved it.

Yes people for get the British Invented the concentration camp, a good reason to teach history properly regardless of how painful it is.

@vitaminsludge @bullivant @georgetakei many interned by the British in Ilfracombe joined up and were only allowed in the Pioneer corps. Isle of Man seemed to have been not too bad. But UK invented the concentration camp used in South Africa first and just as deadly through disease in Malaya

Apparently 'trickle down' economics does not work, the rich are able to develop tools, technology to help them and replace workers with computers.

If workers are replaced with computers, then there is no one left for that money to trickle down to, so it will stay at or near the top.

As robots take more and more jobs, what will happen to the people who need the work, keep telling people to retrain, retrain for what, 1 human can supervise a robot in a factory replacing several other people who would at one time have been employed.

Look at what P&O did, they sacked 800 workers, and replaced with cheaper labour this is what we are dealing with, people at the top who care for money not people. Elon Musk did the same at twitter as have other tech companies, things go bump, lay off workers.

@zleap I'm already here and someone else already maintains @APoD so there's no need for me to replicate their efforts. I was only complaining about the manner the API termination was done, not asking for advice on what do do. I'm explaining that there is nothing I can do given I'm on holiday.

Saying women can’t choose to have abortions unless we’re raped is telling us we don’t EARN autonomy over our own bodies until a man violates it.

By the way, a tax of up to 5% on the world’s multi-millionaires and billionaires could raise $1.7 trillion/year.

That would be enough to lift 2 billion people out of poverty and fund a global plan to end hunger.

We can't afford NOT to tax the rich.

Musk is making us less safe, taking away the ability of agencies to post emergency warnings and information about disasters and threats.

@masakepic

Can we replicate this here, or can we build tools that can helo replicate functionality and federate here, before lives are put at serious risk by what is going on with Twitter.

@slowe

You are more than welcome here on fedi, if you decide to tell Twitter where to go, don't feel guilty about abandoning your followers, I am sure many will understand and I would also hope many of them are aware of what is going on. Hopefully they will realise you are here and find a way to follow you on fedi.

If you decide to switch over more formally I am sure people here can help promote this has happened.

Enjoy your holiday, the fedi will be here long after Twitter has gone the way of myspace and bebo.

What would happen if the UK government gave the nurses and doctors their 35% pay rise, then at the next budget don't update the tax thresholds, would this force them in to a higher tax band?

@GossiTheDog
If trump does somehow win the presidency and uses ChatGPT to write speaches then they will probably be better than what he writes. I am sure the world would notice, I am not too sure if some of the Republicans or his followers would.

So a call to arms, he would be blamed for,then he would simply blame ChatGPT for writing it.

Terrifying thought.

@AkaSci

8 years is a long time to wait for lots of science but all being well it will be more than worth the wait.
