Many small membrane proteins are important #drugdiscovery targets. #cryoem has made membrane protein structure study almost routine, but sub-100 Å samples remain extremely challenging. Peter Harrison, Tereza Večerková, Daniel Clare, Andrew Quigley at the Membrane Protein Laboratory and eBIC have reviewed structures of this challenging group. They look at sample prep, grid choice, solubilization method, complexes (antibodies), data collection strategy and other factors. doi.org/10.1016/j.jsb.2023.107

“The people who stay on Mastodon make it a busier, more exciting place, which means that the next surge will find an even higher equilibrium, as users who try Mastodon find more fully acclimated users who can hold their hands as they get settled in, and also provide the vibrant community that presents a good reason for doing so.”

Over the past 200 years, the #ocean and #atmosphere have been accumulating massive amounts of carbon dioxide( #CO2 ) as #factories, #automobiles, #airplanes and more churn out the powerful #greenhouse gas.

Surely we need to back up any of this regulation with an education and judicial system that teaches people how they are expected to behave and also that actions can have consequences, either under criminal or other laws OR in terms of losing your job or future opportunities.

Agreed, you can start a conversation from watching TV documentary or reading a book, getting out in to nature, be prepared to have that discussion, answer questions, admit you don't know some answers and share the journey in finding out the answers.

Very surprised about this automatically generated description 🤔

"Modular publishing in research is a form of publishing that allows researchers to break up their work into smaller, more manageable components, enabling them to share and collaborate on their research more easily. In modular publishing, research is published in pieces, or modules, rather than as a single, monolithic document."

I admit my view on social media has gone through quite a transformation these past few months. I always felt Birdsite was a heap of whatever that was, always scraping and aggressively self-promoting in an effort to be heard, drop rooms, etc. I feel Mastodon's structure let's you lift others into the light. It's been really easy for me, and much more satisfying and important.

A 16-year-old was shot in the head when he rang the wrong doorbell in Missouri. Don't gaslight me by saying racism isn't a huge problem in this country. I would bet my life savings that the kid wouldn't have been shot through the glass if he'd been White.

Also, a 21-year-old was shot and killed when she pulled into the wrong driveway in New York. The. Wrong. Driveway.

The common denominator in both of these circumstances? Guns. Does this happen in other developed countries? Hell. No.

@timlacy
Maybe that is a 'good thing' as it seems constantly checking social media, being made to feel guilty for not logging in as you have 'missed' something seems to be causing all sort of problems, including Mental Health.

Here we can be more in control of our social media use and our lives, if it takes you 5 minutes or a week to reply to this, then it is fine, people have a life outside of social.

Besides the famous chalkboard photo, Ralph Morse also took a close-up of Einstein's desk.

Covered with papers, his pipe laying on its side, a photo set down as if he’d just been looking at it. It is a very relatable desk.

Albert Einstein passed away #OTD in 1955. The cause was complications from a ruptured abdominal aneurysm.

Doctors recommended surgical intervention but Einstein declined. He told them: “I have done my share; it is time to go. I will do it elegantly."

Here is his office as he left it.

What happens if you plug the amps in to one of those multi way plug things, some have a surge protector built in . But they may also have filters.

I think this is one of the reasons the power line adapters need to be plugged in to a socket and cant be plugged in to one of these multi way extensions.

I made some red cabbage indicator earlier to replace that we have for the STEM group and, of course for use at home.

Just added red cabbage to a beaker of hot water.
