At the moment, people work, get paid and use salaries to pay for goods and services, which pays for other people to run / provide those goods and services.

Once you replace people with AI, don't you then remove the money from the people who will go on to buy those goods / services. The result is people won't have the captial to spend, the companies now running AI will lose money as no one is buying their products.

What happens then, profits down, share down, dividends down and the CEOs who make these decisions will be thrown off boards for damaging profits.

@fcktheworld587 @zleap @gilesgoat and yet, there are zero instances of that actually occurring before. And history is full of examples of the reverse: the rich being..removed. It could give them caution.

They must allow for a gentle change toward more equality, for if they don't: the ungentle change will visit them first.

I am fine with that, one of the best things about here is the intellectual discussions.

Kudos to the scientists who resigned, en masse, from the editorial board at one of the journals published by Elsivier, a company that almost defines the word "greed" -- theguardian.com/science/2023/m

Well if you don't sort it out soon, you will have robots, given guns, and their AI will be based on their creators, as in Americans who like guns, so rather than people killing people you will have robots roaming round with guns too.

@ZhiZhu

Assuming im the US you can address the gun issue, how do you then tackle the far right or similar hate groups without them arguing doing so infringes on the first amendment?

From Wikipedia

"The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prevents the government from making laws that regulate an establishment of religion, or that prohibit the free exercise of religion, or abridge the freedom of speech, the freedom of the press, the freedom of assembly, or the right to petition the government for redress of grievances. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that constitute the Bill of Rights.

I know the UK we have the 'prevent' strategy, this does not kick in if your behaviour suggests you are being drawn in to far right thinking, if I understand it, it kicks in if your words turn in to actions or threats or intent of action.

I am not sure how something like this would work in the US, as prevent is also designed to re-direct people to more positive activities. So for young people this could be youth groups that are run by appropriate people rather than some shady group of adults who just see you as someone to carry out their actions and groom you to do so.

I get the impression from prevent training that what leads to people being drawn in to this is they are disinfranchised with education or similar, feel worthless, and family may not be supportive, so they feel very down and worthless, esp if family has high expectations which they are not living up to. So low self esteem or self worth is picked up by some groups, and they make you feel worth something, then draw you in.

We need to stop people from being drawn in to negative thinking, of course that has exploded since the rise of social media, and mental health issues have also gone up too.

Seems the US may have a long long way to go, as does the UK and other countries, just that most don't have easy access to military grade weapons to add to the issue.

:Cheering megaphone: Are you disgusted by Rep. Keith Self (TX03, including Allen, TX) saying that not only can't we do anything about mass shootings but *we shouldn't even try* since "God is in control of our lives?"

Well, I have bad news and good news.

Bad News: He won by 23 pts last year & likely won't be beatable in 2024.

GOOD News: There are 19 *other* GOP-held seats which ARE winnable next year, and Dems only have to net 5 of them to flip the House:

Stopping gun violence is such a complex issue that only every other advanced nation in the entire world has figured it out.

To see the full circle of a rainbow, you’ll need to be above the clouds somehow. Or you could create your own.

@Tilopa@convo.casa

How do you rise up and start a protest against people who are a bunch of trigger happy, gun loving and gun holding lunatics, without risking them shooting back and causing a blood bath.

Other than doing the protest naked, so you can at least show you are unarmed.

@flexghost

I wonder if he would agree to an experiment, method he kneels down and an assault rifle is aimed at his head, he stars to pray, the theory is that 'god' will protect him. Gun is fired at close enough range to kill instantly.

Make notes of result.

Somehow I don't think he, despite all his faith, he would agree.

if that happens, then you can point out that god never saves massacre victims, so god would not have saved him either.

An unexpected series of events culminated in me calling a round of bingo at a coronation street party this afternoon. Turns out "lucky for some, 69" is a touch risqué for rural Leicestershire.

@siliconglen

Given the current reputation of the MET police, what happened is hardly surprising, rape, mysogamy, homophobia etc etc. Listing just a few of their offenses.

Yesterday I got arrested whilst filming a @JustStop_Oil@twitter.com supporter holding a banner on the pavement near the coronation route. I'm a filmmaker and had my @BECTU@twitter.com press accreditation visible around my neck.

Police deemed this to be "conspiracy to commit a public nuisance".

I agree, and the 4000 members of the armed forces all moving off at exactly the same time was something to behold.
