Did you know lung #cancer caused by #Radon exposure kills twice as many people in #Ireland than road accidents every year?

(I didn’t until I stumbled onto it this week.)

Anyway, so I got one of these little Ecoblu sensors that gives real-time readings and the levels were fine in the bedroom on Tuesday until we got woken up at 4AM with an alarm when it exceeded 200 becquerels (Bq/m³). Cracked open a window last night and levels were ok this morning.

Mallard ducklings are so darn cute! These adorable babies perked up when Mama started moving them along the upended roots of the tree in the pond. They were going for a swim. Such fluffy sweeties with bright eyes and smiles.They make your heart happy.

If you're rolling your eyes at the number of political posts in your feed, keep in mind that we're at the tipping point of authoritarianism here in the US (and other countries). For example, a political party is deciding whether women live or die in childbirth. The stakes are high, and we'll post about it.

I try to balance my posts with politics and lighter stuff. When it's a politics-heavy day, that balance may tilt toward the political end. But I"m not going to ignore reality altogether.

@dancinyogi

I am from the UK, normally I find politics here in the UK less than inspiring. What is going on in the US is different. The country is on a knife-edge between democracy and something very sinister. For me this is important as it will impact everyone in the world.

Here we have prime ministers questions where MPs get to ask the PM questions, so it starts with the leader of the opposition and the PM just pretty shouting at each ohter or the PM just not answering questions and trying to divert the questions, along with the other MPs acting like a pathetic rabble. I can't say they behave as children as children can be behave A LOT better.

@GreenFire @insideclimatenews

So why such low voter turnout, one reason in the UK is people who are disenfranchised with the system, something that is much harder to overcome.

@AwesomeAstronomy

:) It is a good way for people to ensure people actually read something when they notice errors.

I am guessing you meant 50 years.

Cool, that looks really nice too, shows there are real alternatives to wordpress

@juddlegum

I have an interview tomorrow, if I am asked why I am not on Twitter, I am so tempted to say 2 things, 1 ) I am committed to safeguarding and therefore 2) I don't use far right, cesspits

See what their reaction to that is, give this company still use Twitter.

Looks like you are using WriteFreely for the blog ? Great resource, I have just given it a mention to the LibrePlanet committee.

Great job, Republicans, this lib feels so owned

@wchr

Fully agree, it is time that the execs of these companies grew up, stared to treat people with respect, started to understand the law applies to them.

The only way to ensure this happens is each time they break the law, haul them in to court and HIT them with a fine, and each time they offendHIT them again and again until they either comply or they are no longer able to operate.

@wchr

The problem is you mention things like this to people and you just get fobbed off. The problem is serious, but no one seems to want to listen.

The GDPR Article 26 infringement identified by CNIL is interesting, but the decision doesn't really address the fundamental issues with extensive personal data sharing across thousands of companies in today's surveillance marketing ecosystem, from ID matching to profiling to RTB.

fascism watch: street violence, anti-LGBT law, stealth candidates, more

* Republicans sidle up to street violence and vigilantism via more full-throated endorsements

* DeSantis bellows anti-gay and TERF propaganda as he signs another fleet of Republican anti-LGBT bills; they'll make all of us illegal again if they can

* A stealth candidate in North Carolina who won a reliable Democratic district running pro-choice and then flipped parties after election is the key vote in passing anti-abortion law

* Kansas Republicans work to drive Democrats out of the state

* Alabama Republicans move to charge women who get abortions with murder

* Elon Musk has gone full anti-semite

That and all too much more:

The Beatles' song "The Long and Winding road" springs to mind here.

OK, I am on qoto.org, if I feel there is too much spam or something I don't like from a user / instance (domain) I can manually block that instance from my own account? One of the strengths of the fedivers is I can do JUST THAT. I can block / mute individual accounts for a set period.

I think defederation is rather extreme, unless there is known illegal or questionable content.
