I agree, we need to teach critical thinking n schools for that we need teachers / staff who embrace that not just teach it.

The cons learned that people are easily swayed by bullshit by repeatedly bullshitting and having it become a lie repeated by the masses with absolutely zero evidence of it.

The only way to stop it, is by actually spending more time reading and learning about what has come before and how, and less time spewing the lies.

I would assume these VR headsets are not meant for the driver, however given how stupid people are, how long will it be before we see some crash caused by a driver using a VR headset while driving, after all people still seem to eat, drink, use phones, read books, read maps etc etc while driving.

Recipe for disaster simply as some people are stupid.

"That runs contrary to claims made by Texas officials that the regulations would kill jobs"

if I understand things from posts on Mastodon, Texas is a Red, Republican state. This could explain the Officals response that this would kill jobs.

Will be interesting to find out exactly what has happened here, but still worrying, according to their spokesperson this chase lasted 2 hours, according to the police a lot less. However when you are in perlious situations, minutes can seem a lot longer.

Great news! #SeaGL has now published their Health Policy[1] and applied to @phpledge which means I can finally start shouting about this great conference!

The CfP is still open for another couple of weeks:

Thanks to @salt @FLOX_advocate @josh and the team at @SeaGL for following through with this.

Volunteer-run conferences like SeaGL are a lot of work, but a robust Health policy is now essential before deciding to run an in-person event.

How do we measure the age of the universe? Would you like to measure it yourself?

On this note, is there a tl;dr technical overview of #ActivityPub to start with, before diving into the nitty-gritty details of the protocol?

Fully agree, we can't keep relying on the US / Asia for this, we risk being at the mercy of export rules too.

So a long term plan is needed, where we build fabrication facilities, but also ramp up education, so that the next generation know what skills are needed and education is teaching the foundations of those skills.

This should be whole life, so extraction of minerals / elements needed, processing, fabrication, building devices, through to recycling of those devices at the end of life and re-use, so a full rethinking on how we recycle technolgy too (more high skills and more jobs there)

We also need to retrain adults so they can upskill for this workforce, but this is meant to be a world of equlity so stop making stuff for 'young people' only, we need a lot of people to pull this off and a whole new mindset

We seem to have a lot of problems in schools, disengatement, more home schooling (lots of reasons behind that) so something HAS to happen, so more people are not left behind.

With the rise of AI putting some jobs at risk we have to be able to adapt quickly.

Not only do we need to build the workforce, we NEED to retain with proper salaries, coupled with robust expectations. Perhaps we also need to look at the 'potential' of people not just if their application ticks boxes.

We can do this,
