@thor The British tried and failed in the 1800s.
We are trying to mould a country into ouri idea of a society which won't work.
I have heard CIVIL society banded around here in the UK a country that in the space of a week saw 5 people shot dead by a person who despite having mental health issues was allowed to have his gun back, and in the same week several people shot in London in a drive by shooting.
The west has it's own problems with violence, discrimination (and yes this includes people with mental health issues denied help etc perhaps if we sorted that out first and led by example.
I don't think it Afghanistan is hopeless, it is hopeless by western standards, what ever they are

@ShowerThoughts One of the nice things about the Fediverse is that ( and other) information is hidden unless disclosed. I guess this means posts are judged on Merit based on content
It brings people together based on interaction not on geographical location.

@lupyuen No guarantees yet I have found over the years that the support you do get tends to be superior to most paid services.
I've been playing on and off with Godot, an open source 2d/3d game engine. I increasingly think that game engines offer the most exciting examples of new or more supportive/powerful desktop paradigms, particularly for personal software.

@zleap seeing how they have taken Kabul it would seem they have intentions of running somewhat cleanly. Take note, they are NOT a western country. So a western version of our democracy would probably not work.
If they will recover on their own with some sort of democratic process that would be really great.
I suppose we'll have to wait and see, however the Trump administration did this horrible and this could have been handled way better or more slowely

@xvilo The bbc keep asking if the taliban are going to take Afghanistan back to how it was. Maybe we can give them the benefit of the doubt and actually talk / listen to them instead of making wild guesses about what they actually want.

Rather than no touch perhaps we need better basic hygiene some people don't washed hands after using the toilet for example, tests onj bowls of peanuts or other food on bars have proven that.
Tests on phones have revealed more germs than a toilet seat.
Sometimes we are too clan some dirt never does any harm tooo
We have now found viruses frozen for 15,000 years , add that to space travel we don't know what is out there but that cannot be allowed to hold us back from exploring we have the tech to sequence DNA and make vaccines if we can speed that process up safely that could be one step in the right direction.
We still don't know if the pandemic will mutate and force us to live differently, or if another pandemic may take its place. How can we prepare to live in a potential 'no touch' future? https://techpandemic.theglassroom.org/#modifying-section
