@ZySoua I| read somewhere that he refereed to users of facebook as fuckwits, and facebook users seem fine with that,

I think with free software we have the power to examine the software, know what it is doing (prpviding we understand the source code) it just takes power away from corporations and in to the hands of the users in terms of how we use the software.

Facebook has something like 4 billion users, not sure how many of those are dogs, cats, other animals etc.

Power to the people, or perhaps Power to the users.
@zleap @mcduquesne @write_as @writefreely if “free software” is one political movement of the software industry, then “decentralise” is another.

I think the idea that people can set up their own instance for self or a few friends, also is the strength. The fact we have the option to join others, providing we follow those rules is also a strength.,
Either way big tech is a target for people wanting to steal data due to the huge amount of data collected. I am not saying we are less vulnerable as that would be seen as complacent.

Well the more instances the better in that sense, we are in control of our own destiny that way.

The nice thing is you can delete your account and it is gone, you have the power to leave or stay without the platform trying to keep you on board.
This is fine, the diversity is what makes the fedi what it is we are communicating which is important but are also on the same set of pages too.

Video conferencing platform https://bigbluebutton.org/
it has been built by teachers for teaching so has breakout rooms etc, but is free to use, etc. Works really well too.

I think people are starting to open up about non mainstream stuff, I mentioned big blue button to my local partnership and they are going to give it a mention. as I sent them the article about zoom starting to use adverts for free users.
@thor @zleap @write_as @writefreely Giving the normies access to free communication over open protocols not controlled by governments or corporations is worth the risk of the already inevitable evolution or death of current fediverse culture. It’s what it aspires to from inception.
I guess in the US distances are so vast in some cases you need a car to get from A to B.

Not sure I like American football and support my local team here in the UK, I think I did post iodates from the last England soccer game.
I am British but kinda end up using American English to differentiate between American football and football (soccer)
