@drq We just need to get the world out there, keep using it, keep sayig discuss more on fedi, it will hopefully tape in to the FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) just make sure we have something to discuss here.

@vital876@mastodon.social Gunshots or fireworks, both would make sense this time of year.

@dsfgs

I received some note cards with the Mastodon logo on and joinmastdon.com so will make these available at the next stem jam / code club

So along side the flyers you made and sent me, and some other stuff, trying tog et the word out there.

In the meantime, i direct people to here or to the discourse forum for qoto for my blog post related discussions.

oh and also got some new business cards, with mastodon logo and my fedi id.,

That is more subliminal at present but may start to make people curious enough to ask.

@tchambers Agreed, we already have a working communications protocol in ActivityPub, so if we can build more services that link to that then that could go a good way to achieving this.

I also like the idea of S,a;; Web from @aral

OpenCV Tutorial demonstrates how a Python program is built to measure the distance of a hand using a single webcam

Apart from the information on how to use these Python libraries (hand recognition and tracking), it's a very interesting exercise which shows how you build out any program piece by piece, by testing the logic at each step. This is, of course, not possible if you don't have open source code to examine and re-use.

I love how the logic is unpacked at each stage, and it is the approach most programmers will use to simplify what can become complex as it progresses to completion. You test each stage before starting a new one, and this is where you'd notice the X measurement is not sufficient to provide accurate results, and why the diagonal measurement is more accurate. Then testing whether it is a linear relationship or not, and so you keep building up the following stages.

Although this was for hand recognition and distance interpretation, the type of approach could be followed for face tracking or anything else.

@ThewTheKooky No problem, it is actually why I like it, here on the Fediverse. I get better conversation, perhaps it is because fedi is attracting people who are fed up on mainstream social media.

@CoachG1992

The UK did the same, we stockpiled Aprons which was fine for Influenza but no good for things like Covid, for which we needed gowns. Hence the UK scramble for gowns

We just prepared for the wrong type of pandemic.

@ScienceDaily@newsbots.eu @freemo any links between excessive alcohol consumption, related conditions and dying from Covid

Could be interesting to find out.

The Hubble Space Telescope has been up there for over 30 years, expanding and improving our knowledge of the kosmos.

What have we learned? What can the bigger and more sensitive James Webb Space Telescope do that Hubble can't? How can Webb and Hubble be used together to teach us even more?

NASA's video "29 days on the edge" about about the upcoming James Webb Space Telescope deployment:

This time without any Google involvement, directly from NASA's own site. I didn't realize this was available, even though I should have. This one might work better on some devices.

Agreed, if you want to try and persuade others, perhaps write something that is backed with evidence (science) but cite the science or research evidence, let people read your argument and either agree or disagree, or form their own conclusions.

This is how we can improve our understanding and form new ideas based on existing ideas.

Did you know that the FSF has a PeerTube account? PeerTube is a decentralized, federated video platform powered by ActivityPub and WebTorrent, and you'll find us on the Framatube instance: u.fsf.org/36m

@dudebsd @retroedgetech

IMO using duopoly devices allows companies like Google/Apple to shape invasive standards in innovation/future of smartphones.

#Pinephone is a way to #decentralize power away from monopoly, over direction of smartphone usage, and like you say, social control.

People can't see it. + I'm all for degoogled devices, but think it's important to not make android/apple the only choices.

Supporting Linux phones today means choices tomorrow and "freedom" competition IMO.

@libreoffice Cool, thanks for this, I have updated my blog post., and also linked to the new download location (but keeping a link to the old one too)

Less than 24 hours after launching translate.pixelfed.org we have 33 members who have contributed translations for 16 different languages on #pixelfed!

Thank you everyone! ❤️
