Recently, Elon Musk made headlines when he allegedly refused to enable Starlink—a satellite internet service from SpaceX—to support a Ukrainian attack on Russia, thwarting military plans. Has one civilian's power grown too immense? With no elected position, military training, or official diplomatic role, his access and influence raise important concerns. When is 'enough' truly enough? thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p

Results of this may help us target fedi at countries that are under represented on here.

That is spooky. Listening to the Who right now, not this song, but it is one of their songs.

HS2 has been a disaster from the start.

I wonder if Manchester was Tory controlled it would be different.

Huh. Remember when the ‘benefits’ of HS2 were touted as one of the reasons we should vote No in 2014 cos it was going to speed people to and from Scotland? #Suckers

@NPR

That small smirk on his face there that needs to be wiped off

Absolutely insane. Over The Black Sea in 2022, a Russian SU-27 fighter aircraft fired an air-to-air missile at a UK surveillance aircraft with a crew of up to 30 people.

Thanks to jamming, the Russians missed, but apparently Russia brought the world only a hair’s width away from full scale war.

We need to stop Putin right now.

Maybe another way to fight against teams / zoom is to also promote alternatives like big blue button, so people have actually heard of them.

@timkmak

If putin ever tries to nuke the west lets hope his missiles are equally reliable, and detonate near where they are launched from.

@nantucketebooks

Just given this a mention on the in case anyone is interested, i am in the UK soi maybe someone there can drop in to the session.

Here's what we are reading today:

A Russian Su-27 fired two missiles at a British surveillance plane last September due to miscommunication.

The first missile did not lock on and the second one fell from the wing when launched.

I'll be on IRC tonight, starting at 6:30 PM Mountain. Come talk to me about the e-books you've been enjoying, bugs you've noticed, and what you're enjoying on the platform. I can also share my plans for anonymous payments. irc.libera.chat, channel is #nantucketebooks

A dip in the sea was very refreshing after a lovely walk along the coast path near East Prawle in the South Hams of Devon. Really excited to see a peregrine falcon on the cliffs. No pic unfortunately - wildflowers & a basking lizard were slightly easier subjects.

I love this bit of coastline with its little coves, mostly only accessible on foot (or by sea).

My one & only brush with fame occurred here - meeting with Kate Bush to talk about a footpath issue.

NASA panel suggests agency appoint a director of #UAP research and take a lead role in studying the issue of unidentified objects in air & space.

This is pretty big IMO. NASA has assiduously avoided this topic since its founding.

Harder and harder for the science community to wave this issue away as nothing but birds and balloons.

Noted astrophysicist David Spergel led the group that made the recommendations.

they probably aren't on here but the US fish and wildlife service is asking people in the most populated parts of the country to dim their lights for migrating birds tonight. #lightpollution
