"Piracy can't be stealing if paying for it isn't owning"

This is increasingly how it feels, when streaming shows disappear for tax reasons and things you "own" digitally become inaccessible.

Thank you @Illuminatus for this quote.

@bkahn "Scientists working in one of the world’s fastest-warming places found that rapidly retreating glaciers are triggering the release into the atmosphere of methane, a potent greenhouse gas that causes global temperatures to rise." #methane

and then a 700 billion dollar company launched a social media app without the ability to add alt text to images

I just opened Mastodon and saw a long post on my screen and was like WTF I’m not going to read ALL OF THAT only to scroll past it and realize it was MY OWN POST.

The Zuck suck is in full swing. In the few short hours since I started using #Threads, #DuckDuckGo has already blocked over 200 data tracking attempts. These include things like "headphone status" and "screen density."

@LouisIngenthron @freemo @admitsWrongIfProven @skyblond I think it's risky for Meta to defederate after a long time. Their users will probably have Fediverse contacts they'd want to stay in touch with and might actually move then after defederation.

It's going to be an interesting game here.

@Alan exactly! If I wanna see what Zuck or Space Karen have to say, I'd follow them. I don't need an algorithm showing me all they and their rich friends have to say.
I love fedi for showing me what I choose not what someone else forces me to see. 😊
Yay for fedi! :mastodance:

I gotta say, the Mastodon security disclosure for tomorrow's vuln puts most vendors to shame - and Mastodon are a non-profit doing open source code.

They just emailed me to let me know (I've never contacted them before, they've used the contact address on my Mastodon server) the details, including how it was found, how serious and when time wise the patch will be released during the day tomorrow.

I pay Microsoft 9 figures in licensing at job and they sometimes don't even issue a CVE.

@davey_cakes this is totally unfair its not illegal right now its been illegal since at latest 2018

@davey_cakes @silo64 They're still pissed because of that 1.2 Billion Dollar fine. Well, play stupid games, win stupid prices I guess. :awesome:

Lets exhaust our remaining resources expanding moral bankruptcy to dead planets and moons

Well-intentioned people: let's wait and see if #Threads is, for example, a privacy nightmare

Facebook: we're not launching in Europe yet because right now it would be illegal

Right so.

Three things I’ve done recently; that if you run a website you might like to do;

1. Removed Twitter specific meta tags - at this point it’s wasted bytes. Stick to open graph stuff.
2. Updated links from Twitter accounts to their website - a good 70% we’re clearly abandoned accounts
3. Removed links to tweets - they are paywalled now.

This reduces page weight; gives crawlers less work to do; and improves user experience.
