@RunRichRun I agree. Any time violence is used, it's wrong and those who perpetrate it should be held responsible.

But that's very different from the many pro-Palestine protesters who are peaceful and yet are being labelled "antisemites" and being subjected to hatred as well. The lines are being blurred by those who seek to cause division.

@KimPerales Are you 100% sure that's real? Because that sounds like textbook information warfare that would be released by an enemy.

What are the sources? How reliable are they? I've never even heard of "The Cradle" before.

@RunRichRun
Uh, hate to break it to you, but if you're in the US, then yes, hate speech *is* protected speech.

Also, isn't most of the reported "antisemitism" in college campuses really just them showing support for Palestine? I agree that hatred based on one's identity is always wrong, but I also think that label is currently being applied too broadly.

@RunRichRun The stuff across the world, especially in Russia, I wholeheartedly agree with you on.

But the local stuff is just college kids being contrarian idiots. That's what college kids do. I had a Che Guevara flag when I was in college. We shouldn't read too much into that.

@JoshuaHolland I agree with all of that, but isn't it also still the least worst option?

@Av8rdan Except the executive order is toothless without Congress backing it up, and it restricts only the makers of LLMs, not malicious users.

@JasonPerseus You have no idea until you've been sued by an Amazon seller in China with a front and a shady lawyer in Utah over a negative review. And Amazon couldn't even find me a single person in their company who gave a shit about that blatant gaming of the review system and violation of their seller contract.

Don't use Amazon. Close your account. You'd be surprised how easy it is to live without.

@TonyStark I think most people would agree that it's got to start somewhere.

But many of us think that "somewhere" should be treating the causes, not the symptoms.

Every job post now:

Looking to hire an LLM intern, requires ten years experience with GPT4, unpaid.

@ThinkingSapien This is kind of devious but... you could put an empty bowl at the end of your driveway with a sign saying "take one". Then everyone will just assume that some early kids took it all and move on.

@ambihelical My biggest issue is that all the verbs are made up and make no sense in context. You basically have to learn a whole new language just to use it.

In SVN, you check out the source and commit your changes. That's it.

In Git, though, there's "check out" and "pull" and "fetch" and not only do they all do different things, but they do different things in different contexts.

Likewise, the fact that there's both "commit" and "push" and *they* do different things too!

And then there's the file commands... "remove" "discard" "ignore" and "revert" all do similar, but slightly different things.

And the idea of having both local and remote branches is just crazy over-complication. You only need one or the other.

The whole system seems like it's designed to confuse people. I could go on and on.

@RunRichRun Opposing a regime that's actively committing war crimes is not antisemitism.

I can't be the only experienced who thinks blows, right?

Source control peaked with .

@jann Well, yeah, but these days the droughts are just as likely to be caused by Nestle sucking up all the groundwater.

@charlotteclymer Who on the left is actually doing that, other than a few kids in colleges?

@jackmaurus If the video is just a slideshow of AI art, I'd agree with you.

But if the art is used as an element of a larger creative work, I'd argue that that is transformative, and no longer needs to be disclosed.

It's like, if a human samples a number of AI tracks to create their own song, is that "real"?

Discussion of causes of mass shootings

Another story of correlation and causation.

During this same period, we also saw the rise of the 24 hour news cycle that started putting every mass shooter's name and picture on national TV as a reward for killing people.

Personally, I think that was a little more responsible than the ban that only applied to manufacturers, not owners.

Andrea Junker :verified:
Bill Clinton banned assault weapons in 1994; mass shootings dropped by 43%. George W. Bush and the GOP let the assault weapons ban expire in 2004;...

@jackmaurus While I agree with this in terms of active use (i.e. I would never use AI on a client project without their permission), I don't think it applies to end products. If someone releases a youtube video or video game that uses AI art, there's no reason they should have to disclose that. The consumer isn't harmed by that like they are with deceptive advertising.
