@ThinkingSapien It is kind of crazy that "get in a car with a stranger" is an entire industry now.

After a group of Republican lawmakers boycotted votes in the Oregon Senate for weeks, waylaid progress on 100s of pieces of legislation incl. bills on gun control, abortion rights, gender-affirming health care & more, the OR State Supreme Court ruled they cant run for reelection:

@FeralRobots @ProPublica Yeah, at this point, I'm pretty sure they were just hashtag farming, which is disingenuous and unprofessional.

@FeralRobots @ProPublica That's totally plausible! We'll never know what they meant because they chose a stupid unit of measurement.

@ProPublica Why is the length of a barbie movie a more relevant unit of time than "hours" in this context?

@tafadzwa @carnage4life Last couple of months? No, the slow decay of the ad-supported journalism industry has been going on for a decade now. They had plenty of time to pivot, and those that have are doing better than those who haven't.

A hired a few people for these positions so far, but I have ~15 more people I need to hire, fully remote. The links int he post are just for seniors but there are more jobs on the left that we need including intermediate and Jr.

I am still hiring for top-tier programmers and data scientist. Please reboost, share, recommend, or reply if you know anyone who might be intereste...

@tafadzwa @carnage4life Is that why all the big journalism outlets are consolidating and going out of business and having massive layoffs?

@jann It determines "familiar places" automatically without giving you an option to choose them manually?

Yeah, that sounds like a terrible "security" feature.

@tafadzwa @carnage4life Yeah, and most of us will. But they need to stop expecting us to look at their ads, because we've installed adblockers.

@tafadzwa @carnage4life Nobody writes "for LLMs". We write for humans and humans use tools like LLMs to aggregate that information.

@tafadzwa @carnage4life You mean if the ad-supported websites were gone?

LLMs would learn to sound less like customer service agents because they'd ingest more natural writing.

There's something unexpected and truly magical about modern heavy metal bands covering old cheesy disco tunes.

One of my favorites is Avantasia's cover of ABBA's "Lay All Your Love On Me".

@peterdrake I feel that.

But that's the great thing about this book. You never have to read it front-to-back. It exists to be flipped through when you're bored/stuck/need inspiration.

@peterdrake Have you checked out the book "Cartographer's Toolkit" by Gretchen Peterson? It's great, with tons of examples and techniques from historic to modern. It's not only a cool guide to making better maps, but it's also a font of inspiration.

Can everyone who is tempted to describe something today as an “existential threat,” please count to 3 and then not? The volume is much more comfortable when it’s not always cranked to 11.

@josh @hannu_ikonen Presumably, anyone who considers homophobes, transphobes, racists, and sexists to be the "everyman". I'm guessing there's a bit of projection going on.

The text of this law uses the term "scientific beliefs" and it makes my skin crawl.

Ugh, continue their assault on and minorities.

"SB 1780 would make it defamation to accuse someone of homophobia, transphobia, racism or sexism and punishable by fine"
