@CryptoNaturalist Except for a small subset of them who live in the western Pacific who write graphic erotica about rigid limbs.
@jrbprof My debunking reply wasn't an attack.
If you want it to make sense, the real answer (I suspect) is that there used to be a divider between them and this was two poorly-designed stalls. When they found out those were essentially unusable, they just removed the divider as the cheapest possible fix.
You can even see holes in the back wall where it may have been mounted.
@jrbprof If that were the true concern, it could have been put in the middle where both approaches were equally accessible.
@annmlipton @klonick They must have had a hell of a problem with clogs if they started building redundant toilets into every stall.
This #procedural #gamedev #terrain is starting to take proper form now. Still needs a lot of work, though.
@brody I worked with C++ for six months, and that was enough for me.
It's good to understand the concepts C/C++ imparts, especially memory management, but the amount of time spent working on semantics instead of results was too frustrating, especially when the terrible compilers only report obscure error messages that mean almost nothing. There are really good reasons modern languages prevent one variable's memory from overflowing into another's, and exceedingly few reasons not to do that. C/C++ just feels like a license to hang oneself at times.
I've been working in managed languages for over a decade now, and I don't regret it one bit.
@skanman Lol, nope, not a heatmap.
#Procedural #terrain for #indie #gamedev. This is 4KM in each dimension, and took a little under a minute to generate. Anyone want to take a guess at what the colors are visualizing?
@arossp Totally agreed. The closest equivalent here? "Fuck it, just call it 'unobtanium', nobody will care."
@arossp I disagree with "entirely forgettable world building" but it definitely qualifies for "severely squandered world building".
They had some cool ideas for their world, but they chose to downplay those to focus on the boring sexy blue biped Pocahontas story instead.
@QasimRashid You want people to sign a petition asking Democrats to not let Republicans repeal a Democrat-passed bill?
If you're wondering why few folks are signing it, my personal reason is that it seems exceptionally hollow and pointless. Whose mind are you trying to change with this? I'd get better results signing a petition asking a campfire to not blow smoke in my face.
The enemy of your enemy is NOT your friend. #Apple is the largest natural monopoly in the tech industry. They have far too much power with their App Store lock-in.
Apple caves to the demands of repressive regimes in the US, Israel, and China. Apple actively deplatforms sex workers. Apple exploits poor workers in China and the global south.
We can praise some of Apple's privacy decisions (e.g. standing up to governments pushing for crypto backdoors) while also recognizing that no corporation will EVER have your best interests in mind.
We must bring all tech companies to heel with regulation. We also need to build alternative digital ecosystems that don't rely on monopolistic private companies.

I'm a Democrat. But my primary allegiance is to absolute justice—not to a political party.
President Biden urging Congress to pass a bill to impose a contract on railroad workers w/o paid sick day. That's unjust. Biden is wrong. Railroad workers want 15 days paid sick time but 4 main Corps are offering only 1 personal day:
•Union Pacific (13%⬆️profits)
•CSX (15%⬆️)
•BNSF (16%⬆️)
•Northern Southern (17%⬆️)
The problem isn't satisfying workers in need—the problem is we can't satisfy billionaire greed
#parenting, violent threats
@toplesstopics I get that, but I'm referring to a different phenomenon: Like seeing a picture of a giraffe in a book vs seeing a real giraffe up close. The latter imparts a sense of awe and respect that the former does not.
#parenting, violent threats
@toplesstopics I'm not a parent, so feel free to entirely disregard this, but maybe it'll help:
From what you've posted, it sounds like you would never allow a gun in your household, correct? Could it be that, because he's only ever seen them on TV, they're no more real to him than a wand from Harry Potter? That to him, they *are* no more than outrageous hyperbole?
Growing up, I'd always make and play with toy guns with friends. It wasn't until I shot a real one that I really gained the proper level of respect, caution, and gravity to guns that they truly deserve.
Now, obviously, four years old is too young for that lesson, but if you know a responsible gun owner, then maybe it would help to introduce them to your kid. In a controlled environment, your son could maybe even hold an (unloaded!) gun, and feel the weight of it, while the owner closely supervises and explains the responsibility and danger that it represents.
Once it's made real to him and he considers the stakes, maybe his past words will feel different under the new context.
But then again, maybe that would all backfire horribly. 🤷♂️ Anyway, just a thought.
@antonioserrata There's ample evidence that those companies ran well *despite* him, not because of him.
Tesla/SpaceX even have policies in place to insulate employees from their "leader".
You can keep pretending he's some mastermind if you want, but the rest of us see the emperor standing naked and we're not afraid to call it out for what it is.
@antonioserrata @mmasnick It makes perfect sense when viewed through the lens of ego and incompetence, which is 100% Occam's Razor here.
That he hobnobs with other rich assholes does not a conspiracy make.
@michaellammer The funny thing is, this level of incompetence and success comingling are so intrinsic to human nature that we even have an ancient, well-known parable to explain to us how the yes-men around the rich dude make him even less competent.
Elon's army of yes-men are similarly trying to convince the world that he is, in fact, wearing clothes.
