@taedryn @Terra@chaosfem.tw Fair 😀
@taedryn @Terra@chaosfem.tw Ah, see, I always referred to that particular phenomenon as being a "condescending prick".
I thought "mansplaining" was specifically about a man lecturing a woman on a subject because he assumes, due to his gender, that he's more knowledgeable about it.
Then again, I've been accused of "mansplaining" for asking questions, so maybe the term has just been diluted to the point of meaninglessness 🤷♂️
@Terra@chaosfem.tw @taedryn Wait, what? How? Doesn't "mansplaining" inherently require an element of misogyny?
@simmer Really? Because Egypt is working with the US government to provide aid, but they're delayed by Israel shelling the border.
That you are comparing mass murder with a (fictitious) failure to provide humanitarian aid is disgusting. And your projection about "dearth of knowledge" and "antisemitism" is telling.

Right-wingers relentlessly attack free speech and yet they have the nerve to call content moderation by private companies “censorship”

At 3:30, a reporter asks Speaker-elect Mike Johnson, “you helped lead the efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. Do you—“
She was cut off as House Republicans booed and shouted, “Shut up! Shut up!”
The other reporters let their colleague get shouted down by these goons and then immediately asked if he’s confident he can get 217 votes on the floor tomorrow.
Who cares about our democracy when there are important process questions to be asked?

@interfluidity Agreed. But more importantly, fuck the system that makes it so money even matters to getting elected in the first place. If we really wanted the best people to serve, that wouldn't be the case.
@interfluidity Yep, I'm the exact same way. In 2020, I donated to causes I thought were important and had two paid subscriptions to major newspapers. I have none of that now and am cancelling streaming services as well.
If these groups want to keep driving down their own value propositions, then they have to expect us to meet our limits at some point.
The political spam in particular is ridiculous. Why do I get spam texts to donate to local candidates on the other side of the country?
@petersuber @eLife @theonion Well, at least people now know where eLife stands and can avoid it like the plague. They made their bed. Let them lie in it.
@simmer No, it borders one nation, Egypt, who does not have sovereign control over the land and is not currently assaulting and starving it.
What was your point supposed to be?
@simmer Not that I'm aware of, but if they're doing the things I described above, then yes.
@freemo Mastodon may not be the most impartial place to hold that particular poll, lol, but I am interested to see the final results.
Creepy shit
@freemo To be clear, those of you picking the first option are saying shit like this is cute 😆
@freemo Okay, well I think you might be in the minority there, lol
@freemo The reason, as I understand it, is because the animals we tend to find cute have similar facial proportions to human babies (i.e. big eyes). Cats fit this pattern especially.
Update. #Scholastic has backed down and apologized. (Protests work.)

"The Scholastic Book Fair will discontinue its separate selection of books on race and gender following criticism that segregating the titles caters to the right-wing censorship that is spreading across the country."
@serge @emilyk Israel is starving them out, preventing clean water, medicine, and food from getting in (a war crime). According to reporting, the hospitals are now using makeshift medicine, like vinegar as disinfectant. All this to a population that is half children.
What do you call that, if not genocide?
If your main point is that they haven't murdered enough civilians *yet* to count as a genocide, you might not have the moral upper hand you think you do.
