When auto CEOs say they can't afford to pay their workers more, remember that the Big Three have made a combined $21 billion in profits in the first half of 2023 and $250 billion in profits over the decade.

They've also spent $5 billion on stock buybacks the past year.

BREAKING: Hunter Biden gained 41 trademarks in China, made $640 million while “working” in daddy’s administration, and received $2 billion from the people behind 9/11.

Now that I got Republicans’ attention. That was actually Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump.

Once again, affiliation with is a tell that a company is shady as hell. The pattern just keeps repeating.

@LouisIngenthron In 303 Creative, you had one religious woman who entirely owned and ran an LLC. She claimed her free expression rights were violated, both in behalf of the LLC and herself. SCOTUS drew no distinction between the two and held both the LLC's rights and the woman's rights were violated. Now we have a huge publicly traded corporation saying it has the same free speech rights as a single member LLC and nothing in SCOTUS precedent explains how or whether you distinguish.

@LouisIngenthron I definitely agree. Unity is still overall an excellent product that reduces a lot of friction in the game development process for a lot of people. That’s why it’s so devastating to see them go the direction they have.

There's a lot of validity to the whole "don't tie yourself to proprietary , use instead" reaction to the enshittification, but....

It's worth pointing out that Unity is (or at least, was) simply better than any of the FOSS alternative available, especially when you consider the added value of its asset store.

"Switch to " sounds easy, but it's entirely possible that many great *simply would not have been made* if it weren't for Unity's feature-set enabling their creation.

There are legitimate reasons that FOSS doesn't always reign supreme, even if proprietary software has its own disadvantages.

Soooo... just a thought, but what if the entire community came together to build and run a tool to rapidly install games built by big studios over and over? This would cause them to receive a huge bill from , and they'd actually have the resources to unleash an army of lawyers...

Also, what happens when a major update is published? How can I trust that 's poorly-thought-out tracking system will be able to distinguish between a fresh install and an update? Is updating my game going to cost me thousands of dollars now?

Wait a minute. How is going to tie these installs back to a billable account?

If I have a client who hires me to make them a game, and I deliver a built EXE, is going to charge *me* every time my client sells their product in perpetuity, even though my contract with them has ended?

If, like me, you're pissed off at and want to look at options that don't force you to learn a new language, check out these game engines that run on .NET/C#:

More and more, I'm convinced that the stock market is the root of evil in our society.

99% of businesses that go public immediately begin the enshittification process.

Meanwhile, the rich use them as a piggy bank to extract more wealth out of the economy without actually contributing anything.

The stock market doesn't seem to ever make life better for those who produce real value for our economy... it only enriches the leeches.

What would our world look like if we didn't allow stock trading and we actually enforced anti-trust laws?

I haven't been too active here in the #gamedev scene, I'd greatly appreciate anyone who'd like to share this with their gamedev friends and/or communites :)

I like to keep stuff as free as possible, so I heavily rely on reaching the indiedev community <3

Holy shit. Back when I was in college, I was a very active member and developer for a framework published by Microsoft called . After they shut down XNA, I moved to .

But apparently... XNA never died. It was reborn as the open source project . If this is half of what I'm remembering it is... it'll be amazing.

I can't believe I hadn't heard of this before today... Gonna try it out tonight.

So, is essentially going to start charging developers for even pirated copies of their games?

They did not think this through at all. Officially going to start recommending to my clients that they abandon Unity with due haste.
