You'll recall all that guff about the special relationship & how after #Brexit our US friends would see what a wonderful opportunity the UK had become?
Where have US #microchip manufacturer Wolfspeed decided to invest $3bn in a new production facility?
Well it ain't in Britain; deciding they need easy access to the European market for #electric cars & #renewableenergy, their new plant is in #Germany (also responding to a big EU push for inwards #investment in this sector)
@greenaspen @peterbrown Don't ignore the benefits of provoking and then winning a pointless foreign war. Thatcher would have been out on her ear in 1983 if it hadn't been for the Falklands War.

I wonder what attitude religions will take if, or personally I rather suspect, when, evidence comes to light of the current or past existence of life forms on other planets.
I used to work with a devout Muslim and this subject came up in conversation over lunch in the canteen. He asserted with a startling degree of certainty that no life exists now, has ever existed or will ever exist anywhere else in the universe as that is the Muslim belief!
I am assuming that such people will simply deny the reality of any discovery that goes against their entrenched beliefs. I'm not sure what devout Christians believe in that context but it wouldn't greatly surprise me to find them holding egocentric beliefs similar to those held by some Muslims.
I'm not familiar enough with other religions to know what their attitude to such a discovery might be. Perhaps followers of other faiths might like to contribute to this thread.

Labour is ignoring the Elephant in the Room. Those of us old enough to remember pre EU UK recognise where we are. You can try to make #Brexit work but if you chose to Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland have a choice.
The desperation of the scammers, plunderers and xenophobes to push Brexit through at all costs drove the Tory Party to the hard-right
And problems we have seen, such as corruption, bullying and abuse followed.
We need to REMEMBER this stench!

Published in 2016, this brilliant comic by artist Joe Dater somehow feels even more timely in 2023. #art
Well, here's something that will surprise absolutely no one with an operative brain cell!
“Again, I warn you:- not to be ordinary not to be young not to fall ill not to get old.” Very chilling and haunting words reflecting 13 years of Tory Government and yet some gullible muppets still support them, why….because they’re manipulated and brainwashed by the Sun, Express, Mail, Telegraph and BBC!
Brexit is costing £100billion each year! Workers are proving difficult to find yet Tories continue to suppress wages. This is ineptitude driven by dogma, #ToryMadness! #ToryLiars #ToryBrokenBritain

I have a dilemma over who should be the next Party Chairman. I can't decide whether it should be Fiona Bruce or Laura Kuenssberg.

@Robsterthermidor @Paulos_the_fog The BBC is a fantastic institution we should be proud of. Unfortunately the BBC News department is shockingly pro-establishment and needs a major revamp.

Detest tories. Subscribe to green, leftish radical politics but not to any particular political party!.
Love the EU and all it stands for, moreover, I spent the last 10 years of my career working at an EU agency.
Enthusiastic photographer, especially wildlife and most especially butterflies.
Slightly knowledgeable gardener.
Atheist; loathe almost all religions and pity the people deluded enough to follow them. I make exceptions for Buddhism as it isn't really a religion in the strictest sense of the word as it doesn't postulate the existence of any god, and Jainism which is the epitome of peace.
For anyone who is interested, my header photo is of the most stupendous sunset I have ever seen. On the right is the waterfront of Vientiane, the capital of Laos, on the left is Thailand and in the middle, acting as the border between the two countries is the mighty Mekong river.
