@zleap After reading the article I didn't come to the same generalization. It doesn't seem like she, or the others quoted, are just generally trying to get at "us," they seem primarily focused on the COP26 and the politicians in attendance. Unlike children who often have no say, politicians choose to run for office, and they choose to take their respective oaths of office before starting the job. Anyone who takes an oath to perform the duties of a job, then deliberately fails to follow through in pursuit of other concerns, deserves every bit of mockery and derision I can heap upon them. We can argue whether politicians should be focusing on climate or some other issue. They are correct, though, that no single leader nor group of world leaders has ever really followed through on the grandstanding they do at these meetings.

@zleap @emacsen @atoponce I'm a little late to the discussion but here's the post on the SFC blog https://sfconservancy.org/blog/2021/oct/21/trump-group-agplv3/. Not a whole lot more info... but it seems they are coming at this from that angle that everyone who was able to create an account so far is entitled to the source code. They don't specify, though, whether they represent one of those individuals, a group of people, or any other gritty details about how they actually plan to proceed.

Well, the Japanese porn is a huge cultural divide that won't be reconciled anytime soon. A lot of the porn the comes out of the US/UK would be illegal there just like some of the anime is here. I don't really have an answer for you on that. Racial epithets and referring to women as "females" isn't a great look, I agree, but at this point is anyone unfamiliar with the fact that people are dicks on the internet?

Just to clarify, it's not that I think anyone is doing a bad job or being malicious. It would be much worse if you *couldn't* run your server on your own terms. Servers here are generally more open about their policies than centralized operations will ever be too. Take joinmastodon.org, for example, though. (Which I realize isn't your site). On their front page it says 4.4M users, but how many are silenced? If you click to the ToS you can see the domain list. That doesn't really give you the full picture though. I just think we can always do better.

@ern@mstdn.social I felt the same way when I first joined but I've come to appreciate a more unfiltered view of things. I mute a lot of bots and block some people who post a lot of NSFW stuff, but I like that it's my choice to do so. I actually think the big instances should be more upfront about the fact that they block or silence half or more of all ActivityPub users.

Agreed, but what ought I do about it? Insist that a whole school or district, which includes thousands of other people, use the software I like? I like you FSF... But you're crazy.
