'For example, loss of function of the microglial gene Trem2 renders microglia dysfunctional and causes an early-onset neurodegenerative syndrome, and Trem2 variants are among the strongest genetic risk factors for AD. Thus, restoring microglial function represents a rational therapeutic approach. Here, we show that systemic hematopoietic cell transplantation followed by enhancement of microglia replacement restores microglial function in a Trem2 mutant mouse model of AD.'

'In this Review, we synthesize recent progress made in understanding the interplay between the evolution of immunity induced by previous infections or vaccination and the evolution of seasonal influenza viruses driven by the heterogeneous accumulation of antibody-mediated immunity in humans.'
@cyrilpedia @halama_immuno @victoralab thank you looping me into this thread.
Fascinating the ipsilateral vs contralateral #vaccination route though perhaps striking thing to me is the lack of a more pronounced signal. I. E. Yes there is a bit to gain from ipsilateral boosting but not a lot.
However I wonder if this could be a crucial variable in achieving effective / longer lasting #immunisation in those hard to vaccinate - e.g. Immunosuppressed
'Both ipsilateral and contralateral vaccination induce a strong immune response, but secondary boosting is more pronounced when choosing vaccine administration-routes that allows for drainage by the same lymph nodes used for priming.'

"Ventura divulgou factos falsos com o conhecimento de o serem e fê-lo de forma deliberada e apta a enganar as pessoas e - desta vez - com a agravante de ter feito passar os conteúdos que divulgou por notícias da Renascença e do PÚBLICO. E a divulgação que fez foi massiva. Isto merece tutela penal."

'The sriracha shortage is hardly the worst crop crisis that’s being fueled by climate change. For years, Michigan cherries have been suffocating in too-high temperatures, while Florida citrus have been obliterated by hurricanes; India’s wheat crops have roasted, while rice around the world has been double-teamed by floods and heat waves. But to now see peppers in peril is its own special burn.'

I want to highlight the work that went into the revision of the manuscript, crediting the contribution of lab members and collaborators, as well as give an overview of the Review Commons process we used (see https://www.reviewcommons.org/) 2/23
I've not been here much lately, but here's a bit more about our paper just out in the Journal of Cell Biology, “Presynapses contain distinct actin nanostructures” (Twitter trained me to come up with short titles 🤏 and long threads 🧵, which are also doable in Mastodon I hope) 1/23

“He could actually read a room and understand how to make it a meaningful experience,” says Hesse, recalling that 1966 Monterey jazz festival performance. “From the first note, he had the people in the palm of his hand and then took them on a journey throughout the entire set.”
As the Beatles would suggest, come together, right now.
"Research on the origin and early evolution of life therefore comprises two areas of understanding that in practice make little contact with one another (Fig. 1). We understand some of the chemistry and geochemical settings that could have led to an origin of life and we can also infer details about early organisms through the most ancient protein families. In practice, however, these two fields of research remain largely disconnected."

#OTD 15 August 1892 Louis de Broglie was born. He postulated the wave nature of electrons & suggested that all matter has wave properties, today a central mechanic in quantum mechanics. De Broglie won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1929. He was the first high-level scientist to call for establishment of a multi-national laboratory, which became the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).
I've worked on all of science, from B cells to T cells.
