“I personally don’t believe that in a time of pandemic there should be exclusive licenses,” the researcher Adrian Hill declared to the New York Times in the spring of 2021. Hill and others at Oxford University, UK, had produced what was then the world’s leading covid-19 vaccine candidate and planned to offer it to manufacturers royalty free. But the insurgency was put down before it ever got off the ground.'
Australia approves faecal grafts.
"The Therapeutic Goods Administration granted approval for faecal microbiota transplants as a low-risk biological for the “restoration of gut microbiota in the management of gastrointestinal disorders”."

A pleasure to co- author this commentary with @ACasadevall1 arguing that the surface of fungi & bacteria is too complex and highly regulated to be adequately captured by the term “cell wall”. Your article link:

"Here we show that individual Bmp ligands and Tgfβ drive distinct enterocytic programs specific to villus zonation. Bmp4 is expressed mainly from the center to the upper part of the villus, and it activates preferentially genes connected to lipid uptake and metabolism. In contrast, Bmp2 is produced by villus-tip mesenchymal cells, and it influences the adhesive properties of villus-tip epithelial cells and the expression of immunomodulators."
UCSF Faculty sent the following letter of strong support for students, specialists and postdocs to UC President Drake.
The most-compelling reason to increase the wages of postdocs and graduate students is equity. Having a less-than liveable wage makes advanced education inaccessible to historically underrepresented groups.

From the outset, the bioRxiv vision has been to decouple dissemination and peer review. It's a sign of how far things have come that there'll be an entire HHMI meeting on preprint review (Dec 1-2) - which you can stream https://www.janelia.org/you-janelia/conferences/recognizing-preprint-peer-review

#introduction I’m a researcher in molecular #evolution investigating poorly annotated parts of bacterial and viral genomes, including short & overlapping genes, to better understand gene origins & regulation. Interested in more opportunities to review papers or present my research! "The exhibition is, in essence, an installation of museum-approved counterfeits, products of research for springboarding imagination about what the ancient world may have looked like. But most of the reconstructions feel brand-new—unweathered and therefore unreal. They serve as components of an art-historical argument, rather than as art per se."

Calling #genetics people. Faculty post a York University in Toronto. Great department. Send me a message if you want information. https://www.academicwork.ca/jobs/assistant-professor-genetics-york-university. molecular, cellular, and/or #EvolutionaryGenetics #genetics or #Genomics feel free to retoot to spread it further.
"To identify genes limiting T cell function, we conducted genome-wide CRISPR knockout screens in human chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells. Top hits were MED12 and CCNC, components of the Mediator kinase module. Targeted MED12 deletion enhanced antitumor activity and sustained the effector phenotype in CAR- and T cell receptor–engineered T cells, and inhibition of CDK8/19 kinase activity increased expansion of nonengineered T cells."

Didn't really spam # properly at 1st, & now realize how useful that is in 🐘 :
I study #immunity #genes and #immune #evolution, including host - #pathogen interactions. My work has focused on #antimicrobial #defense #peptides which are #antibiotics coded by the #genome . A key focus in #microbiome 🦠 , and #inflammation & #NFkB in #aging and #senescence .
Focus on #Drosophila but work in other #species whenever possible to improve evolutionary context.
#Introduction toot.
I'm a molecular virologist studying #BSL4 pathogens, primarily #filoviruses like #Ebola #Lloviu and #Marburg viruses at the #NEIDL at #BostonUniversity
I'm a big proponent of collaborating and #OpenScience

#introduction time!
I am a #social systems biologist.
I study how #evolution created #sociallife.
I study #ants and ant colonies as a model for #development.
I study the evolution and impact of socially transferred materials (e.g. milk, eggs, seminal fluid).
I lead the Lab of Social Fluids at University of Fribourg.
I am also the founder of The Catalyst, a science entertainment collective.

#introduction Hi fellow mastodonians!
I'm a neuroimmunologist with a focus on #Tcells in #multiplesclerosis. My lab uses #Tcr-seq , #antigen discovery, and in vitro and in vivo models to study the functions of T cells in MS with the goal of developing novel #biomarkers and targeted #therapeutics.
Here for communicating basic and translational science with like-minded folks. Looking forward to connecting!
I've worked on all of science, from B cells to T cells.
