An #introduction in English as it will be the (other) main language here.

I am a researcher in #academia. My work is interdisciplinary at the interface of computer science, computational biology and biology.

My main interest is the development of methods in systems biology dedicated to understanding bacterial communities and microbiomes. I have a special interest in metabolic modelling.

Latest lab paper: Great work by Nikos Vakirlis and Zoe Vance @ZoeV22

"De novo birth of functional microproteins in the human lineage"

Looking for some entertaining bite size reading over the holidays?

I recommend the perspective distorting pieces by occasional @Dev_journal columnist Tsuku Mogami

This is so interesting:

Synaptically connected neurons send proteins to each other packaged in exosomes. Previous studies showed protein transfer but I think this is the first large-scale screen, identifying 200 proteins (likely an underestimate because they only looked at ones passing through axons).

More evidence that our conventional models of neural signaling are radically incomplete!

1990 MILLER'S CROSSING ⭐️⭐️⭐⭐⭐(Coen & Coen)
The Coens return! This gangland tale is a pastiche but manages to achieve escape velocity from its many influences. The pleasures of the triple-hardboiled script are obvious, but there's a bleeding heart beneath. Follow the twisty plot of a peacetime consigliere playing two sides against the middle and you'll find Yojimbo on the surface, but if you watch closely enough you'll learn that its been The Remains of the Day all along.

#introduction
Hi, #neuroscience community.

I'm an assistant professor at the University of Washington who works at the intersection of engineering and neuroscience. I am excited about using engineering tools like closed-loop motor brain-computer interfaces as tools to probe basic neuroscience questions, and using insights about the brain to improve functionality of BCI applications.

My lab's current work
1) explores using BCIs as tools to begin unravelling how learning computations happen in neural populations
2) studies the interactions between users who learn alongside algorithms ("co-adaptation").
3) investigates how brains build "internal models", with a current interest in how to quantify internal model formation behaviorally.
We use both animal models (non-human primates) and human subject experiments. We also collaborate closely with computational and theoretical neuroscientists.

Trying out this thing as an alternative to Twitter. I'm already intimidated by the space to write and minimal pressure to edit.

The kirin is a #yokai from #JapaneseFolklore that originated in China. It looks part deer & part horse with dragon scales. This beautiful, gentle creature harms nothing & is a strict vegetarian. It's seen as an omen of luck & great fortune. In case you're wondering why you haven't seen one lately it's because this benevolent creature only appears during periods of world peace. Also they're only seen in the lands of wise & nobel leaders.

Henrietta Lacks was a poor, Black, young mother diagnosed w cervical cancer in 1951. When her cells were collected w/o consent, scientists saw they multiplied remarkably fast.

“HeLa” cells changed #science. They’re used globally to study viruses, drugs, hormones, genes, diseases & develop vaccines. Lacks passed away at 31 w no recognition.

Rebecca Skloot’s beautiful book about her life & legacy is changing that. Now her statue will replace Robert E. Lee in NC. nytimes.com/2022/12/20/us/henr #history

Hello all! Time for a little #Introduction. I'm a postdoc in cognitive #neuroscience at the @uva_amsterdam, working on different topics related to #musicscience and #rhythm. Happy to be here!

Here's the fulcrum of this story, the paper where the Bluestone group and collaborators turn the mouse anti-human CD3 monoclonal into a chimeric, non-Fc activating molecule: Alegre et al, 1994

My latest clinical pipeline column for Nature Medicine is a look at a drug recently approved by the to delay the onset of type 1 diabetes.

It's a direct descendant of the very first monoclonal ever approved for clinical use.

Quick question for the Drosophila aficionados :) have ever come across with a suppressor of the dominant mutation IF? I have a IF/Cyo stock and everything is ok exempt that the IF eye ia gone :) i gave seen Tb disappear from a TM6b (where Hu is still around), but never had IF vanishing into oblivion… just curious….
