At the age of 99, French mathematical physicist Yvonne Choquet-Bruhat, a pioneer in the study of general relativity, is one of the last people alive who engaged in research discussions with Albert Einstein in his office at the Institute for Advanced Study

As a human rights lawyer who has done extensive immigration work, let me make something absolutely clear.

Asylum is legal immigration.
There's no "port of entry" requirement.
There's no "visa" requirement.
There's no "first country" requirement.
You enter the United States, and you apply for asylum.

Because asylum is legal immigration. Period.

Period.

@gershbrain There's an inspiring paper by @Katejjeffery, Pollack and Rovelli 2019 "On the Statistical Mechanics of Life: Schrödinger Revisited" mdpi.com/1099-4300/21/12/1211 that argues how life, and specifically complex structures, opens up the space of possible variations in the organization of components and therefore more entropy. And that statistically this implies life is entropically favoured.

'But an abrupt U-turn by Beijing this month on its former zero-Covid policy of containing the disease has sparked an explosion of cases and prompted a surge in the number of mainlanders seeking mRNA jabs in Macau. The former Portuguese colony and special administrative region is the only place outside mainland China where the country‘s citizens can travel without having to quarantine on return.'

"Older vaccines use the postfusion, or Post-F, version of the protein, whereas new vaccines employ a prefusion stabilized, or Pre-F, immunogen. Here, Chang and Phung et al. directly compared immune responses elicited by a Post-F vaccine, MEDI7510, and a Pre-F vaccine, DS-Cav1. The authors found that DS-Cav1 elicited antibodies that more potently neutralized RSV A and B than MEDI7510. This enhanced response was mediated by the presence of antibodies that could bind sites on the F protein that were only present in the Pre-F state."

The Nation's 1955 article on the Emmett Till "trial":

'Citizens who drink from the “Whites Only” fountain in the courthouse breathe much easier now that the two fair-skinned half brothers, ages twenty-four and thirty-six, have been acquitted of the murder of a fourteen-year-old Negro boy. The streets are quiet, Chicago is once more a mythical name, and everyone here “knows his place.”

"When Fauci was born in Brooklyn, New York, on Christmas Eve in 1940, Franklin Roosevelt had just been re-elected for a third term in the White House and Adolf Hitler was on the march in Europe. Fauci captained his school basketball team but was too short in stature to make a career of it. He studied humanities, philosophy, Greek and Latin and just enough science to get into medical school."

👋🏽 Neuroscientist here. And geneticist. With a friendly reminder to neo-eugenecists that, in spite the name, IQ test does not measure intelligence anymore than how long you hold your breadth measures how well you swim. And race is not a genetic concept, is a social one.

"Here we incorporated inside EVs the endogenous retrovirus-like Arc protein capsids, stabilized by Arc 5'UTR RNA elements, to effectively load and deliver mRNAs. Produced from self-derived leukocytes, engineered retrotransposon Arc EVs (eraEVs) are immunologically inert with minimal clearance. Equipped with endothelial adhesion molecules from donor leukocytes, circulating eraEVs enter the brain enriching at neuro-inflammatory sites. "

"In this politicised tripolar world economy — formed by the US, EU and China — the basic source of tension is the confrontation between Washington and Beijing. On top of Russia’s attack on Ukraine, escalating tension over Taiwan made 2022 the year in which a third world war became a real tail risk."

Bacterial endosymbionts of beneficial soil fungi protect their hosts against micropredators such as fungivorous nematodes with a cytotoxic benzolactone.

We now found that the anthelminthic effect is boosted with a biosurfactant named symbiosin. Although this compound resembles some fungal metabolites, it is also produced by endofungal bacteria.
