I have an old Kindle, very old, and have always ‘sideloaded’ content via Calibre.
If I do opt to buy an Amzn store DrM’ed title, a Calibre plugin has dealt with removing that encumbrance. Such titles can be downloaded to a computer rather than direct to eReader.

UK might be somewhat unique in having a public broadcaster that is ad-free. Ireland levies a license fee while RTÉ shows ads with similar regularity to, say, ITV.
So, what I’m saying/suggesting is that we in the UK might be in a privileged position vis-a-vis the situation in other territories where Amazon & Netflix operate.
But, I do agree - try to show me ads if I pony up a subscription fee, hard no!

The way the social media cards have fallen, I think my natural home is now here on Mastodon - despite its limitations.
Overall I prefer the exchanges on
here, which can be considered views rather than instant 'takes'.
Threads is now tending towards toxicity (especially the default "for you" tab which you cannot opt out of; Bluesky has not caught me; and I really only visit X for the Aston Villa tweeters still on there.

Haha, timely. Headband lamp needed recharging, it uses USB-C connector. Grabbed a USB-C to USB-C cable from the drawer, plugged into an Apple iPad PD wart. Nothing. Found a USB-A to -C cable & compatible adaptor, that worked.
Possibly non-PD compliant device or cable. Will check tmrw.

I doubt the 0.02mm, here & there, makes a difference. The socket usually employs a simple folded metal jaw clasp.

So, I just happen to have a set of vernier calipers, 3 Apple adaptors, and a Samsung adaptor to hand.
Apple A1299 & A1399 (pictured) have grab dimples & the earth pins measure 4.03 x 8.06mm & 4.06 x 8.06mm.
The A1718 MBP USB-C adaptor is 4.02 x 8.04mm.
The Samsung USB-C adaptor is 4.02 x 8mm.
Might be a high friction surface finish on the metal pin on the Apple products? I could just imagine Sir Jonny giving it that level of detail.

I got a glimpse of the civ, mil, all buttons as search initiators (no separate [search] button) then after a page refresh back to previous. Looks like caching issue. I’ve no front-end knowledge, but perhaps a client/browser can flush caching at CLDFLR?

It is worse than that, many people don’t have the remotest idea of how anything works. An example, I recently had a conversation with a primary school teacher who has some responsibility for the work undertaken by classroom assistants - more than one did not understand who they are employed by.

I'm glad that #flipboard is getting other media outlets that aren't already on the #fediverse to join it in whatever what they can, but I'd much rather theverge.social exist.
