Good old Wordpress is still a great option. You can create a blog in Wordpres.com (corporate site), stay there for years (no technical expertise required), and then migrate it to your own server (that requires some technical expertise, but it is much more powerful). Most of cheap hostings offer Wordpress out of the box, so you are always covered. Wordpress is free software, so anything you learn in the .com site is valid in your own server.

Should I return to Twitter only to vote to fire that guy? I will ¬abide by the results of this poll.

Please boost if you’re still masking indoors (in public places)

@niyes

If Mastodon diehards want this to be The Next Place after Twitter, the move is to bend over backwards to listen to disabled and Black community about what they do and don't need in social media space.

Even if it's challenging.

Even if it makes you uncomfortable.

These are power user communities, whether folks like it or not.

Right. But which year would be the best default? 40 years ago?
Of course, a way to avoid all this is doing as Kai's link suggests: avoid using a calendar widget at all, limiting to only empty text fields.

@RCrespo

At this point it looks like we will not have an operational W3C nonprofit on Jan 1. Every Director will vote their conscience, but it seems likely that the asset transfer will be rejected, leaving MIT responsible for its contracts with W3C Members (for which they have paid).

No one knows what happens then.

Remember Steve Jobs, Michael Jackson, Hitler... All of them were idolized by many people. And they weren't nice people at all. People wants to worship people. The difference is now is more evident with social media. And polarizing times make people exacerbate their leanings.

@tony
Well, taking into account the fact that he joined in 2016, I guess that guy is not the only reason he is there. Seems to be overreacting to criticism.

CNN, WaPo, NYT journalists' accounts were restored. The Intercept and independent journalists were not. We've gotten the worst of it all: the criticism of being the “mainstream media” but without the backing or protection of being the “mainstream media.”

So I understand that the bird site has started blocking links to common/known Mastodon instances, and that doesn't seem like free speech to me. So... I did a thing.

If you go to spacekaren.sucks it is now a URL shortener that blocks the twitter user agent. That means you can share that link that will redirect to your Mastodon account without the pouty baby stopping you. If you find this helpful can you boost so others can find it? #TwitterMigration #Mastodon #Musk #introduction

If you want to watch a really good Marvel show which depicts a clearly subversive main character fighting the most powerful stablished order you can imagine, watch Loki. You will have a blast.

Uploaded images are stripped of metadata in public sites for your own security.

I remember the case of the son of a drug lord in search and arrest who did a selfie with his father and put it on a social network. Police used the photo location metadata to find and arrest him.

Yes, that was a bad guy, but what about good people bein harassed?

Uploading files to public web sites which don't strip metadata can be a very effective way to doxing yourself.

There are many legitimate reasons to track Elon Musk's flight coordinates, for example to offer him ads more relevant to his interests

I don't know if what AIs are making is art. But silly entertainment, yeah, in spades.
