@ShrikeTron @chadloder this is the first time "disengaged" comes across in the conversation. And let me tell you, "disengaged" doesn't read this anyway. As far as "cluttering the timeline". This is the opposite to the problem many have. Easy to stop following. Yet, many people (myself included) find genuinely interesting content on twitter. I prefer cross-posting a retweet, rather than detaching from the source

@ShrikeTron @chadloder it's a trade -off and would be strange to pretend you can weigh the balance on someone else' behalf

Want to work on Mastodon full time? I’d like to pay a Rails dev for the next 3+ months to implement some auth improvements that matter to me but also just burn down bugs, make perf improvements, whatever is needed as this place grows. Remote 100% ok but need 3-4 hrs of Pacific time zone overlap, fair pay, meaningful work. #fedihire #ruby #rails #job

"Verify" your account options

1. Your personal site (e.g. stephenfry.com)

2. A page on your org's site (e.g. example.org/who-we-are)

3. A verification service (but prob a bad idea, as explained here: fedi.tips/how-to-use-mastodon-)

4. Your org running its own instance and using that. i.e. this by Dan Hon: newsletter.danhon.com/archive/

For the journalist migration, most people are pitching option 4, but I've seen some ppl say journalists might not want to use their org's instance, even if one got set up?

If you're trying to find journalists on Mastodon, I've created a verified database of several hundred here: presscheck.org. Since the backlog has become enormous, the unverified waiting list is now public also: presscheck.org/pending

...and now blocked references to mastodon and crossposting

In the last 24 hours, Twitter has (1) censored Ukrainians, (2) suspended accounts posting open-source info on oligarchs, and (3) suspended serious journalists just doing their jobs

Public Service Warning

Mastodon has a very big surge of new users right now. There's no way to tell if it will be sustained, but at this early point it looks similar to Nov 18 when when Musk pulled the employee purge.

It is very challenging for system administration to accommodate so many new users. If your server starts to struggle, it is not broken and will get sorted out.

We're all in this together. It's our social network. Be patient. What we are building is amazing.

12.The existential issue is when AI has reached a point of mimicing the entire artistic process from start to finish. When the AI is creating your art you eliminate a core part of the human experience. Your skills, ideas, experiences and emotions are detached from the piece 🧵

Update - I was refunded and lost access to Midjourney. They are no longer profitting off of these images and I assume didn't want copyrighted characters generated. I hope this thread created discussion around AI and where data is sourced

We're seeing multiple folks in who *should know better* bragging about using to help them write papers. So, I guess we need a thread of why this a bad idea:

@JxckS and to justify it, they changed the rules in such a way that it's now against TOS to livetweet about the World Cup

Twitter's suspension of @elonjet@twitter.com seems to have energized its creator, @JxckSweeney@twitter.com, who vows to take his flight-tracking bot to other platforms. “Now I'm going to keep going on forever,” he tells @stokel@twitter.com.“I guess I can’t let [Musk] win now.” buzzfeednews.com/article/chris

@avdi prob poor documentation and maintenance practices. Which in turn speaks of a very small development community, probably without stable leadership. Lots of FOSS projects live or die due to a single person at the heart

@adam_crymble @foundhistory @dh care to elaborate what the UK model you talk about is? Asking from Italy

@muiiio What's the benefit of hosting an instance. I can think of many downsides, e.g. maintenance, but also moderation issues

"The Fire Demon Heart"

That 3D voxel sculpture packs a ton of detail. Awesome how a whole scene emerged - with a demon heart, fire and mysterious spells, animated by rotation.
