In case you have any lingering beliefs that Matt Taibbi is a journalist, @emptywheel is here to show you why he is absolutely, positively not.

I often agree with @dandrezner
I do now, too

I’m beginning to think it’s time for a Twitter sabbatical. Staying on this site right now feels like it’s enabling this kind of behavior. https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/12/12/musk-twitter-harass-yoel-roth/

I would love to rebuild our community of veterans.
If you are a veteran, drop me a hello in the replies.
Maybe a hashtag would help too.
(If I don't follow you right away, just give me a day or so)

If you have questions about how to visit Goroka, let me know. It's a difficult place to get to, but a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
@DaveOfThings I see you head a robotics team. I was in one in high school and I really do miss those days.
@DaveOfThings My advice is to just find people and topics you like, follow those people and those topics, post what you like to talk about, and respond freely to replies. Follow back when someone follows you if you like what you see on their profile.
You will be amazed how quickly you get a circle of interesting people.
@countrymarxist @Popehat It's up to you. Apparently the admin has some rather cranky views on reality.
@mynameisnate @PinkCamoTo Then again, I also think we have too much dystopian fiction and not enough utopian fiction.
I want to see people propose positive visions of the future and showing how we might get there. Drawing dark futures and simply saying "don't end up like this" doesn't seem to be working out.
@mynameisnate @PinkCamoTo Sometimes it can be comforting if the dystopia is set before or during our time but is a) implausible and b) way, way, worse than our time actually is.
@PinkCamoTo I'm currently doing math research for fun. I find that's the best way to occupy/distract myself from anything in general.
Yes, my friends and family consider me a bit weird for this. Why do you ask?
@kjr @LouisIngenthron @freemo This is a great summary. This makes the distinction in terminology, and the reasons for it, quite clear.
Since people just hating Jews, Arabs, and other Semitic language speakers/groups collectively purely on the basis of their linguistic/cultural affinity is probably not a thing that happens to any significant degree, and since when it comes to real world Nazis and other bigoted, racist asshats, anti-Semitism in practice is always targeted at a racial category designed to consist specifically of Jews in the broadest sense, I can see why the term has a *slightly* different sense than what one would expect from the prefix and original word alone.
