@EugeneMcParland
Incredible, isn't it. Anton Geraschenko has reported extensively on this (forgive the Xwitter link). The word that really jumped out at me is "artisanal" -- which in this case appears to mean unqualified mechanical service using parts that are uncertified, worn, and/or maybe even adapted from incorrect.

@randahl Google translates it as "improper treatment of a writing". Who defines what is improper, the offended religious adherents? Could you get arrested if you kept a copy of the Quran in the lavatory for reading if someone found that "improper"?
@AnthonyFStevens It's particularly fun to look at the fares of other countries whose publicly owned transport companies own some or all of the UK's private ones, and realise that British passengers are subsidising German ones.
@gregeganSF Artificial Incomprehension. Because we're just not good enough at not understanding problems.
@AnnemarieBridy I remember in the Bible how it took 25 rounds of voting and three or four prior collapsed nominees before they finally settled on Moses out of sheer exhaustion.
@Ruth_Mottram @randahl I really wonder what role outside actors like Russia and Iran played in Hamas' attack to produce this very effect.
@MaryAustinBooks Hopefully she was billed for the full costs, and her insurance provider refused to cover it.
Personally I'm still trying to figure out why this complicated, friction-intensive arrangement is better than hub motors.
Yes, unsprung weight, but in the meantime I still have a superb car from 1996 in my driveway that handles magnificently and gets outstanding mileage... and has steel wheels and drum brakes in back. Unsprung weight is not ideal but it's not the end of the world if it provides sufficient other benefits.
@mhoye Awfully complicated and a lot of wear parts compared to, say, a hub motor.
@MariaHill @TonyStark Is everyone on progressivecafe.social a Marvel character?
Why would anyone specify a 15 page proposal? A document should be exactly as long as it takes to fully and competently present its material.
@randahl I tried to post video of them dutifully fucking themselves, but got in trouble because I forgot the content warning.
@marksquires @sjvn I once multiplexed an office with four Apple II+es to a single 10MB hard disk in a utility closet. Ribbon cables two inches wide stuck to the walls with carpet tape...
@sjvn Meanwhile the world's richest man and tech leader just named his long awaited product the CyberTruck. Which is straight out of 1996. What's the slogan for that thing, "hey, wanna cyber?"
@ct_bergstrom Professsor X says, better a thought reader than a thought leader.
@randahl @chris_e_simpson I was sure at least some manufacturers were already doing that. Putting the motors in the hub not only increases space, but efficiency: less friction and mass, and also improves computerized traction control and regenerative braking.
That is a mighty fat cable, almost like it's carrying more than electricity. Coolant?
