@Sundae_Gurl Not clear on the humble part
Drifting significantly off topic but my proposed solution to the policing crisis is a a law requiring law enforcement bodies to have insurance against police misconduct liability. This might force them to stop hiring psychopaths and refine their practices in order to be insurable.
At least one hosting provider (digital ocean) offers a turnkey mastodon instance that can be fired up on its own servers. What'd be nice would be a KVM disk image that can be started on on *any* hosting provider: start it up, set a few parameters in a single config file, and you're off and running.
I'm competent to make such a thing, but if someone's beat me to it let me know, because I'm also lazy.
(I know there are docker images. Not the same thing.)
@RobertMaguire I'm no lawyer but if I had to guess, I'd to guess that contempt liability doesn't end when you step out of the courtroom door.
@Standplaats_KRK I've long had a rotary dial app on my iPhone, never used it or mentioned it to anyone. One day my wife asked me to make a call I didn't much want to make, so I wearily and dramatically started to dial...
The laugh she gave me was definitely worth it.
@chrisgerhard Not so weird.
@chrisgerhard "Go read about the tulip craze. ...okay caught up now? Right, so: basically that, but with waste heat and carbon debt instead of tulips."
@lauren A stealthed laptop is so much cooler than a stickered one.
I suddenly remembered that there was once a roller-disco themed Buck Rogers remake series that featured a small robot with a circumcised penis for a head, voiced by Mel Blanc, which carried an AI apparently made out of a hiker's canteen around its neck.
It ran on major US network TV for two or three seasons.
I'm reminded of what someone said about the Frampton/Bee-Gees "Sgt Pepper" movie: with enough cocaine, anything can seem like a good idea.
@Obscurenyc Um, is one out of three okay?
@hasmis I feel like I'm looking upon the world with new eyes.
@FlyVapen_Pikk @shaman And its own provinces. Minority cultures and languages are being concreted over.
(Yes, I'm well aware that the US and other colonial powers did the same. Doesn't make it better.)
@hasmis Much, much better.
@lauren (I can't help but imagine there was something prankish about it: "I know, let's put tiny angel wings on Brian Blessed! It'll be a howl." But he carries it off, because he's Brian Blessed and nothing can change that.)
@hasmis I can't think of a funny answer so I'll give a mundane one (pardon me if this is obvious): these pinpoint forecasts are written mostly by a rules engine with little human editing. Number falls above a certain threshold: patchy fog. Falls below it, no patchy fog. So there's a data point midmorning below a fairly arbitrary threshold there.
Me after seeing The Phantom Menace: "Well, that was pretty terrible."
After seeing Attack of the Clones: "What in the name of all the gods was that thing I just subjected myself to? I am NEVER watching another Star Wars film."
(A decision I stuck to until I saw reviews and stills from Rogue One. Which I do like a lot.)
@lauren Brian Blessed steals it
