At Protests, #Guns Are Doing the Talking
Armed Americans, often pushing a right-wing agenda, are increasingly using open-carry laws to intimidate opponents and shut down debate.

"We are seeing many covid reinfections, some very close in time. Even in those who were vaccinated with multiple doses. Reinfections can be dangerous. Covid is growing again. It's not endemic."

@what46hasdone Yeah, you can't fight a sole proprietor who's willing to spend money. All you can do is vote with your feet.
Welcome to Mastodon! Just be aware there's no content management and no algorithm. The tools are here to control what you see and what you don't see, but you have to do it yourself. On other platforms it's "block and report" and hope someone does something. Here it's just block and note the instance. If you have multiple troublemakers from the same instance, block the whole instance.
@reprapryn @georgetakei Even if he could create such a phone and make it cheap enough that his target audience could afford it, how does it work without an app store / play store ecosystem? Are people supposed to carry two phones, one for all the stuff they need for everyday life, work, and family, and another just for Twitter?
Does he expect Google to port Gmail to his phone platform?
Of course, everyone will still be able to access Twitter from any phone's browser, but that's clumsy.
https://t.me/United24media/636 🇺🇸🇺🇦USAID donated 80 generators to Ukraine, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink said. “While Russia tries to turn off the lights, USAID is providing 80 generators to keep the power supply going. This assistance is only part of the US response to Russia's brutal and ongoing attacks on Ukraine's critical infrastructure as we continue to support Ukraine,” Brink wrote #Ukraine #News #War #Russia
Birdsite account deletion for CA residents
Apparently if you are a California resident, you have the right to request Twitter to delete all personal data retained about you and your account.

@situok @Tweetfiction @drvolts We'll find out in two years.
@Tweetfiction @drvolts Now the GOP is really mad because they've been working at this for 40 years, with the intent to call a Constitutional Convention and rewrite the Constitution. And now they see all that work almost achieve the goal and now slipping from their fingers.
Those who follow me on The Bad Place have heard me repeat this a thousand times, but once more won't hurt.
Election security is incredibly complex, full of seemingly impossible tradeoffs. But disinformation about supposed "rigged" elections is perhaps the most serious threat to election integrity today.
The best defense is to learn how elections actualy work! Becoming a poll worker is a great way to do that
Also, this National Academies study is a terrific resource:

@karlauerbach That's a strange one. Sorry to hear that. I've had no problems yet but with all the newcomers I'm sure something bad will slip in the door.
I've not found a built-in display of my list of blocks. What I do is go to the Export function, where you can export various CSV files including your block list.
@lauren I was wondering what his plan was. This is getting funnier by the minute.
@Calltoactivism Is this the same one recently where the FBI went to his house to talk with him and he sprang out and attacked one of the female FBI agents?
@M0RGM Agreed. I use a very similar key, same size, all heavy gauge stainless steel, strong magnets in the base. Works great. I use it as a sideswiper with the contacts shorted together.
I use an aluminum lap desk with clipboard on top. I added a stick-on plate of thin steel in the upper right corner of the desk for the key to stick to.
@georgetakei Thank you, George! Appreciate your signal boost. Grateful for your voice and compassion ❤️✊🏽
Now that we're starting to see more impersonation accounts on Mastodon, a reminder that verified websites are a thing. It's not perfect, but implementable at the individual level, and this is how we know for example which of these is the real @stephenfry - and it's not the one with the meaningless checkmark. :)
