@msbellows @Teri_Kanefield Yes, I've done this off and on for 40 years. As far as I know anyone can send an amicus letter to any court. If I see an interesting case that I have thoughts about I'll write an amicus letter to the court presenting food for thought. (This usually occured in patent cases.) The court is free to ignore it, of course.
@Teri_Kanefield Seems to me he's wrecking his own arguments. One minute he claims his activities were political and protected under the First Amendment. The next minute he wants the case moved to federal court because these activities occurred while he was Chief of Staff. But political activities are specifically not among the duties of the Chief of Staff. I don't get it. But then I'm an engineer not a lawyer, and it probably shows. Hah.
@StillIRise1963 History will look at this the same way we do at the HCW who not only refused to wash their hands, but tantrumed so hard against it they had the MD who proved it necessary committed.
My daughter’s response to the Rheumatology NP (the entire specialty is in Immunocompromised people!) mocked us for masking: “Not masking is gleefully participating in genocide.” The NP was annoyed but did ask someone to bring her a mask. It was just a surgical paper one but the point was made.
I hate them all, and if we had any other options, I’d take them.
@w7voa No market solution. And why might that be, hmm?
Their libertarian, every-man-for-himself approach doesn't work in the real world.
Though not a complete consensus at this point, this is what I see as the likely “unofficial” platform of the Republican party for 2024.

@Ve3ldj Hahaha. High-Frequency Active Auroral Research Program, but I'm sure you already knew that.
Until HAARP was built, there wasn't much we could do to study the ionosphere (200 miles up, well into space) besides observe the effect of the sun on it. HAARP is composed of a gang of transmitters totalling several megawatts feeding a phased-array antenna system that can focus those megawatts on a small and quickly steerable area of the sky. The gain of the antenna system results in ERP (effective radiated power) as high as 4 gigawatts. This is enough that HAARP is able to induce small effects in tiny areas of the ionosphere which is highly educational.
Over the years there have been some "fun" experiments where the ham radio community all over the world was invited to participate. I participated in one back in 2008 where we did moonbounce in the 40 meter band, haha. HAARP focused full power transmissions at the moon. The reflected radio signals were received by hams all over the world.

As far as affecting the weather, no. Causing earthquakes, no.
Great post on the hypocrisy in companies that ban web scraping while also relying on it.
Well, that’s sad. Another one bites the dust. https://consequence.net/2023/08/carlos-santana-anti-trans-speech/
A part of the spinning force working in #theWashingtonCottonMills, #Fries, #Va.Group posed by the overseer. All work. The overseer said, "These boys are a bad lot." All were alive to the need for being 14 years old when questioned. Location: #Fries, #Virginia.
@Loukas Been on Mastodon since 2018 and have used various platforms. The thing about Mastodon that stands out for me is the ease and speed with which I am able to connect with people with common interests. The process went faster and easier than anywhere else.
I believe this is attributable both to the platform and the people using it. Mastodon users are more likely to hashtag their stuff and Mastodon has the tools to make use of this.
House Republicans Begin Investigating Willis Before Trump’s Atlanta Booking
The launch of an inquiry into Fani Willis, the Fulton County, Ga., district attorney, was the latest example of how the former president’s allies in Congress are using their majority to try to protect him.
@dcdeejay Exactly. I just finished reading an analysis and quotes from the debate. All of them would support an pardon a lifelong criminal now facing a mountain of serious charges, some of which can invoke the death penalty -- capital crimes. In a country governed by the rule of law, this makes them all criminals and accomplices in my opinion.
This isn't a big surprise, of course, but it's still shocking to see them say it directly on camera. It's also shocking that the U.S. population isn't calling for an investigation into their un-American behavior and their arrest. I grew up in a different U.S.A., apparently.
Mainstream media has failed to focus on the biggest takeaway from last night's GOP debate:
The Republican party has confirmed that it would put a convicted felon the White House.
Nothing else they talked about really matters. #politics #journalism
@Dtl Epic is a good description. When I pulled up the radar, zoom out, zoom out, zoom out, how big IS this thing, anyway?
@hannah Looks to me like somebody's software project didn't fail gracefully.
Deranged is right. Ought to be illegal.
@Dtl Yes, it's an unusual pattern, and not just because it's so big. Thunderstorms usually form a line, sometimes a very thin line, along a front. As the front passes you get a burst of t-storm activity.
I've been watching this for hours and it looks like there's a "thunderstorm generator" around Detroit that just keeps cranking them out non stop for hours and they drift southeast towards West Virginia. Weird.
