@stefan

I guess to add to this, the fediverse lacks the very things that make mainstream social media so popular

Celebritiy gossip
celebrity news
Sport gossip (well to a point I am following some NFL teams)
Influencers
Self proclaimed experts
And to a point fake stories, fake news, mis information, perhaps we are just better at critical thinking and can avoid / block that.

So we have the coronation at the weekend, no doubt mainstream social media will explode with people talking about it, opinions, (for and against) selfies and such like, what people are wearing, etc.

Meanwhile fedi will have very little or none of that, for me is is what appeals to me, the lack of all this on the internet.

Who gives a damn what Jonny Depp and Amberheard got up to or what the whining megan Markel is moaning about this time.

It does make conversations in real life interesting, esp as papers such as the daily mail use statements such as "THAT dress" probably to refer to something everyone was or is apparently talking about (I assume on social media)

I really like one of the interviews given during the soccer world cup, two girls randomly asked about it, they were unaware there was even a world cup being played, let alone that England were taking part, shows how it is bad idea to just 'assume' everyone knows about things, or to assume they are even interested.

@Some_Emo_Chick

Ah thanks

Just worth asking

@gwfoto@newsie.social

Perhaps they could replace uniform code to include bullet proof vests and helmets.

@stefan

We can actually have intellectual conversations here,

@Some_Emo_Chick
hm Was Bunny Yeager any relation to Chuck who was the test pilot who broke the sound barrier I think?

@CarolineLucas

She has a point they Do have different values, but also different cultures, ideas and ways of doing things which integrate with what we have here and make us better.

The English language is a amalgamation of others, such as French, Latin etc.

Granted I know this is not what SHE meant but we can turn her words in to a positive

@CarolineLucas

So how do you propose funding tertiary education?

@sMarten_Winter

I think you have a good point here, a hypothesis, If I understnd it is an idea.

I am sure a lot of things were discovered by accident, radiation for example, marie curie left a photographic plate out near a radio active substance, then questioned what and reacted with the plate.

I am sure sometimes we try and make the result fit the data as we think something has gone wrong when our predictions don't match, this is fine to reproduce things to rule out errors or other factors.

@realTuckFrumper

When trump visited the UK, there were protests however one such protest involved a large inflatable trump wearing a nappy (diaper) to suggest he was a baby.

So maybe the next time he does that, the journalist should suck his thumb and respond to trump with goo goo ga ga in order to try and drop a large hint that trump needs to grow up.

@EPPGroup

I think we need to protect people from abuse across the board. The bullies just move their hatred online as it is easier, they are cowards who can't make face to face comments. They are still bullies off and online.

We have laws on harrassment in public / workplace, so all we need to do is extend the expectations online. Make those expectations clear.

Bullying in the workplace, can result in dismissal, so just extend the law so that if it takes place online, then you equally face being dismissed. Lack of action on this can equally result in the workplace being sued for damages.

We have laws on slander, libel, deframation too, again ensure they are legally enforceable, granted it may be harder to prove or disprove.

If we teach peope to think before they speak or type then maybe we can create a better world overall.

We can also teach people the world 'NO' and 'STOP' are instructions from the person being targeted to do JUST THAT, and not carry on, this sort of thing should be taught at an early age, but it seems that it is not in some cases.

So my last point goes back to what many others say, EDUCATION is the key.

@david

I think this sort of thing is part of the 'trendy' ideas that come through, it is like having those video things playing inthe background. They probably look nice, BUT play havoc with people with certain conditions, I just find them distracting and pointless.

I get the impression proper web designers kow what they are doing and avoid stuff like this, however it is managers who insist on all these 'extras' as they look 'cool' or 'trendy' or which ever vocabulary we use these days.

As a result it makes more work for the people coding the site and is as far as I know one reason people LEAVE as they get fed up of all the BS from their managers.

@atlas_core

+1 We need better access to devices where we can install our own OS and replace what is pre-installed, if nothing else less bloat also equates to less tracking, adverts and other unwanted garbage.

@Tilopa@convo.casa @MrShoggoth

While Trump may be more at risk of heart attack or stroke this is due to his health, weight and known factors that lead to that. So dying as a result of health won't really solve wider issues.

While it may avoid trial by treason, surely this will send a message to younger, healthier supporters that you can do what you want without judicial consequence.

By putting Trump on trial for treason, you send a clear message to others NOT to follow what he has done, so even a 25-35 year old president or politician will know that they can be hauled before a judge and put on trial.

It also sends a message tha regardless of your health you can also expect the same.

Justice must be SEEN to be served.
