There are many ways to be racist. At one extreme, there's the ideological racist, then there's the prejudiced racist, the opportunist racist, the denialist racist, and I'm sure there's many others. Even within those categories there can be ranges of more-or-less racist ... prejudices can be very broad or narrow, they can be derogatory or superficially complementary (but still damaging).

The denialist is interesting, because they are only racist because they defend the racist status quo -- if they were in a different society they wouldn't be racist.

(I'm assuming that the original post was edited, because the comment about the friends makes no sense)

@ewdocparris Need to include simple opportunists.

@ct_bergstrom I think Mastodon is preachy and judgemental because it's built as a sort of intentional community, rather than a simple transactional relationship. I think many people just need to get their head around the fact that Mastodon as a whole is an open network with all types of people in it. They may want a community of peers who use Mastodon in the same way, but the rest of us are fine with the idea that some people get more attention than others...some do more content producing and others do more consuming.

It's not set during the holocaust, but it is about the holocaust -- the story focuses on members of a Holocaust survivor family, but two generations removed from the Holocaust (both before and after).

Another good book of his is Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close -- but that could also be 'traumaporn', since the focus is on a boy whose father dies during the 9/11 attacks.

Bitcoin is just one transitory manifestation of those dynamics. If people want to speculate on some asset, the price will be volatile -- whether it's tulips, energy futures, the British pound, or bitcoin. If the cost of environmental destruction is not borne by the people doing it, then people will get rich destroying the environment.
