@Scooperman @charlotteclymer If they were explicitly vocally dismissive of lost lives, then possibly, yes.
But if they just didn't grieve enough because they were too busy speaking out against the upcoming genocide, then no; that's just priorities.
@charlotteclymer Yeah, but on the flip side, showing compassion for the victims of genocide is *not* antisemitism, despite the many claims to the contrary.
Two things are true:
There's been an explosion of really vile #antisemitism, some coming from pro-Palestinian protesters. It's terrifying.
Calls for a ceasefire and condemnation of Palestinian civilian deaths are being labeled antisemitism, even when they come from Jews. It's slanderous.
These things feed into each other.
It's a terrible time to be a pro-Palestinian, anti-occupation Jew. We're really getting hit from all sides right now.
@ambihelical Yeah, but you can do a "local branch" just by checking out the source into a different folder than the main one you work in.
@dclr42 ...no it didn't. It brought war and death. Literacy, education and healthcare already existed, and the religion was used to keep serfs downtrodden and later to justify slavery, so it definitely wasn't for human rights.
And the idea that any Christian sect brought "religious tolerance" is ludicrous.
@jackmaurus Eh, it's no magical monster. I've trained models, myself, seen under the hood. It's an advanced pattern matcher. Its biggest danger is the same as any other computer program: garbage in, garbage out.
This is hilarious! “I saved my company half a million dollars in about five minutes. This is more money than I've made for my employers over the course of my entire career because this industry is a sham. I clicked about five buttons.” https://ludic.mataroa.blog/blog/i-accidentally-saved-half-a-million-dollars/
@peterdrake It's a cross between the old classic Asteroids arcade game and a modern miner/upgrader.
You have to venture out into the rings, find rocks with minerals, break them apart, and then gather the minerals in your hold (while dealing with the physics of big heavy rocks bouncing around inside you). Then you return to the station to sell and repair and upgrade and repeat.
It's been a while since I played it, but if I recall, right is deeper into the rings and left is shallower. Go far enough left, and it'll prompt you to autodock to the station.
@ZachWeinersmith Just out of creative curiosity, what was your thought process behind making the punchline panel monochromatic silhouettes?
@emilygorcenski @StarkRG No, but it can be. It doesn't matter if iCloud backs up a file if that file is encrypted with a key derived from the unique hardware in your phone.
@freemo I don't fault Trump for the entire COVID spike, but I do think his poor handling made that spike much bigger than it would otherwise need to be, and can't be discounted entirely.
But also, that 3.2 minimum he got was clearly riding on the coat tails of Obama. The curve actually started to flatten during Trump's early tenure.
And 0.6% seems like a silly gap to quibble over when it's been as high as 10% or 16% in the last decade.
@emilygorcenski Wait, is there really not an app that can do that without an internet connection?
Encrypting such data locally would be trivial, and then the publisher wouldn't have any data for the feds to subpoena in the first place.
@JoshuaHolland @MattFerrel Tbh, both of those solutions just sound like preludes to a civil war to me.
@freemo Wait, what are you talking about? Unemployment is down, and wage growth is currently outpacing inflation. Signs are good for the future, from what I hear. Plus I love all the pro-union stuff happening under Biden's tenure.
@freemo Right, my point was only that Biden had to spend so much of his term cleaning up the mess. Given the state he received, I'm actually pretty impressed with his performance. He wasn't my first choice either, initially.
@freemo His complete failure to lead during the first year of COVID affected me, and a lot of others, pretty directly.
@freemo Well, you were also gone for the last guy's tenure too, right?
In my experience, everything turned to shit in 2020, and since Biden took over in '21, most things have been slowly improving.
@freemo That's okay. You don't have to marry him. Just have to trust that he won't actively set our country on fire and then in 4 more years, you'll have a whole new crop of morons to choose from. 😀
