@Phancypants Yeah, I've been in plenty of those spaces too, and now I actively try to avoid them. I get that those folks typically have their armor up because they've been hurt in the past, but in my experience, they're usually just hives of endless drama.
I much prefer the queer groups that are welcoming and inclusive instead of suspicious and exclusive.
That said, I'm not fully on-board with UFoI, but I definitely have waaay more respect for it than the lazy reactionaries who block it without doing any research.
@freemo Haven't seen the movie, but is it an actual kid? If he's pre-pubescent, then the pituitary glands aren't fully developed and BO would be *much* less of a problem. Mix that with a lack of dirt and physical exercise, and I could see the need for exceedingly few showers.
4/ Unfortunately, a lot of instances signed up for UFoI because, from a cursory glance, it looks like they have good intentions.
But because they're now associated with UFoI -- even if briefly -- they are now indiscriminately on Fediblock.
This is guilt by association.
And unfortunately, too many instance admins block everything that winds up on Fediblock without investigation.
This isn't being proactive, it's being reactive and lazy.
Captain: "Just fucking sort it, now!"
Lead Tech: "You're just yelling impossible instructions at people!"
Tech: "Sorry, I have now fixed it, actually."
Captain: "See? Sometimes it works."
@redeagle It's downright surreal watching these instance admins write very public defederation posts about how awful QOTO is when the things they're complaining about are all demonstrably false.
@brody Are those pictured scientists or shitposters? I generally wouldn't recognize the faces of either.
@redeagle We're a STEM-oriented instance that promotes open, but polite, debate.
Some folks spread some out-of-context screenshots of our instance admin, implying that some nasty stuff wouldn't be blocked, but when viewed in-context, it was clearly more nuanced, and he clarified it further in the following days.
Our instance admin then emailed those admins that blocked our instance, explaining what happened. Apparently getting one polite email constitutes "harassment" to some of them, and the drama and nonsense has basically just spiraled from there.
@marathon@fosstodon.org @blake Bingo. I don't understand how so many people are describing receiving a single polite email as being "harassed".
@SamuelBepis @freemo @Darkayne FWIW, I've been on QOTO a month now and haven't seen any race science or bigotry. The few moderation decisions I've seen have been thoughtful and nuanced.
@freemo isn't always the best at clearly communicating his intentions, but from everything I've seen so far, his heart appears to be in the right place.
As a member of the LGBTQ community, I never felt anything less than welcomed on QOTO. And, if I had to describe the tone of my Local feed here, it's mostly STEM-related material, but of the few political-or-politics-adjacent posts I see, the vast majority seem to be left-leaning.
I don't know where this dramatic characterization of QOTO being a hive of right-wing disinfo and bigotry comes from, but it really doesn't seem to have any basis in reality.
The FTC is suing to stop the Microsoft/Activision merger. Actually...kinda surprised by this
@volpeon Did they do something new and awful to prompt this, or is this just general anti-Adobe sentiment?
Building designer WIP (human for scale).
The #model of the structure is 100% #procedural. Still need to add roofs.
@ThinkingSapien Not much to tell, really. It's two textures: a seamless wood and a seamless metal. I just eyeballed the UVs as I made each piece of wood, making sure they were internally consistent (aspect ratio) before scaling to make the pixel size match the rest. Then when I duplicated any piece, I just dragged all its UVs to provide some variation.
Unfortunately, this technique does lead to wildly overlapping UVs, so it's no good for light mappers.
@ThinkingSapien I think I tried that retort as a kid. My dad's response was "People in life aren't always nice. Get over it."
Protest matters. Protest just helped stop the SFPD from having the right to use deadly force using robots, a policy that the board of Supervisors overwhelmingly supported in a vote just last week. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2022/12/victory-san-francisco-bans-killer-robotsfor-now
