@niclas
> I am convinced that all this is a fabricated crisis.

yes.

german electricity prices have been a racket for a long time though. even our extra tax to build more renewables can't explain our prices. it's just that all of the power companies maximized the price because people have to get electricity somewhere.

i am so pissed by my country and government, it really isn't funny anymore.

seems some people in german universities still do useful things - this is pretty nice:

deutschestextarchiv.de/

historic german texts scanned, processed by ocr and it seems also proofread. 10/10 would science again.

@Zerglingman @dave i think i had yacy set up years ago, but i don't remember details, i'm not even sure if it worked completely. the usual java shenanigans iirc :)

@cyberspook
by any chance, are you an arch or openbsd user?

joke aside: been there, done that. keyboard maxxing is productivity larp. mouse is the right tool for some things. i don't need faster. i need "i don't want to think", not learning dvorak or more of idiosyncratic vim or whatever. i'm back to floating wm with key and mouse binds to tile stuff.

use acme, it's command language and mouse chording for a while. just try it. it's not retarded but designed and used by some of the smartest unix people. they knew in the 80s that the terminal of olden days should be replaced and just did that in plan9.

i never got the keyboard maximalism. i'm not faster by just using the keyboard and not the mouse. it's just that common mouse usage idioms are shitty. see acme for how to implement good mouse idioms.

@cyberspook @11112011 @ins0mniak @helene @7 @p
that does work, and i did that a while ago. mapping the middle button to a thumb button is ok, but chording in acme feels totally weird then :)

@phryk

Correct. I have made this argument for decades.

Corporations that are convicted of a crime should serve that sentence in jail, i.e. no activity for the jail term, no sales and marketing, no development, nothing...

Instead we have fines, which corporations simply call "cost of doing business".

And the anarchist in me says; Corporations are a State construct, to provide a veil of freedom when it is an instrument of further control (tax collection most obvious one).

I sure haven't and for me this figures into the whole issue of corporations being legally considered "persons".

Like, if we have a bunch of places where people can be killed through a court order – why can't the same be done to companies?

And if people can get jailed – why can't companies?

Do they really just get the benefits of "personhood" without any of the negative ramifications that are supposed to hold persons in society accountable?

@Vasta218 Watching the coverage of Russia-Ukraine conflict is like pregaming myself for electioneering media coverage.

It takes a lot of nerve to tell someone to change their name because it’s offensive in a different language

yeah, having my own laptop at somewhere around 16 was really an event for me, even without it having wifi (or my family having an access point.. :D)

> Man, thinkpads, especially when big blue was making them were great.

i still have one of those here.. i should revive it. a thinkpad in its 4:3 glory.

newer thinkpads have _flexing_ issues.

FLEXING. THINKPADS. :ablobrage:
