Много ме кефи съдържанието във федиверса, обаче си представям, че е така само за определени общности (учени, нърдове, американски либерали, лгбт+). Колко му е да го направим гостоприемен и за българи, поне някои, колкото се може повече,...
@blago но всъщност моето преживяване е просто в българския контекст. В глобалния е много по-ужасяващо:
@blago преживях много странни неща когато ми откраднаха акаунта преди почти година. Може би най-простото за споделяне е, че видях по колко абсурдна процедура успях да си го взема обратно (след ~20тото повтаряне на същата процедура и със сигурност не в резултат на качване на лични документи, което бях направил преди това многократно). След това смених веднага парола, мейл, телефон, в случай, че са ми го взели през някой от тях. На следващата сутрин ми го бяха взели отново.
Преди няколко седмици за няколко проби на работа ми се наложи да инсталирам инстаграм. Отначало даже не се замислих, че мейлът ми е един от използваните тогава. Една седмица след отварянето на акаунта, ми го блокираха с изискване да се снимам с името ми и OTP код написан на ръка. Направих го и просто ми отговориха, че оставам блокиран защото това било недостатъчно

Wikimedia Russia has been dissolved.
The general assembly of Wikimedia RU decided to disband the organization after it was made clear to the president, of Wikimedia RU, who works as an as an assistant professor at Lomonosov Moscow State University, that he was to be classified as a "foreign agent".
Closing Wikimedia RU was done to protect the (now former) members of the non-profit organization that supports Russian Wikipedia.

I needed to understand the angles on Threads federation in a more rigorous way, so I took a few days to think through and write up my sense of the benefits, risks, and available risk mitigations, along with loopholes that need closing and questions to discuss with fediverse administrators.
This is a blisteringly hot subject for me, so it's hard to keep my head cool enough to understand other people's trade-offs, but I'm trying.

It's almost Public Domain Day! This year, there's a lot of hype about a certain mouse entering the public domain, but to be clear Steamboat Willie is going into the public domain. The newer versions of Mickey Mouse are still protected by copyright & trademark.
There are a whole host of other cool things going into the public domain on January 1st. More information about the works entering the public domain can be found @ the Center for the Study of the Public Domain.

To anyone out there hosting a #Matrix server of any scale, interested in connecting with the QOTO matrix server?
What I am proposing is I will add any Matrix server on the fediverse into our configuration under room directories on the condition the other server adds QOTO as well. This wont change anything functionally except to allow the server to show up int he drop down for matrix servers when searching for servers to join. It just makes sense to have the various fediverse servers show up in that list by default.

So I setup a list of maybe 30 highly active matrix rooms organized into Matrix Spaces on the QOTO Matrix server (though you can access them from any spaces enabled matrix server).
Just login to your existing matrix account on any server, or register for a free one at https://element.qoto.org (registration open to everyone). Then join any of the following spaces (make sure you turn on spaces in your config under labs first).
Please let me know if you have any rooms you'd like to suggest to be added to any of the below spaces. Also, feel free to create your own space and share it.

#Fediverse_space:qoto.org - Various rooms from matrix servers that have a fediverse hosted as part of the same community.

@evan no one likes paying in general, so an out-of-context survey is not the right tool to capture openness to such a feature. Examples for what content might be paid could be a bit closer, but then different people would pay for different content.
E.g. someone might be willing to pay from on-site live reporting, someone else for timely advice,... Then comes the possibility for personalised content, such as 1-to-1 dedicated training or real-time Q&A sessions
@danhon @luis_in_brief @evan toots are potentially any type of instant content. Surely no one would pay for my freebie thoughts, but if there's the possibility for bite-sized paid content, it's up to creators to find an offering that has its paying audience

Now I understand why delivery services have a hard time finding things. Or why people often get lost when using #GoogleMaps on foot.
Whenever I catch a glimpse of #GoogleMaps, I take a closer look and go "THAT'S NOT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE".
If you haven't tried anything but Google Maps, go ahead and check out Organic Maps, OsmAnd. Anything amiss, you are not powerless - the map can be updated by anybody.

Cathedral, Mountain, #Moon
Capturing a triple alignment of the Basilica of Superga, Monviso mountain, and the crescent Moon took six years and five failed attempts due to bad weather. Success came recently in Piemonte, Italy, with clear skies allowing for a shot that also revealed the da Vinci glow on the Moon's surface.
