As far as Twitter is concerned, I'm not going back until it's cleaned up and the trash taken out. One thing I was taught by my old-school parents is "You are known by the company you keep." Yes, I know this is prejudicial, often unjustified and unfair but it's how life actually works. It's how people think.

If Musk wants to turn Twitter into Parler I won't be there for it.

@lauren Oh, and I agree. I don't see HAL as evil at all. At every step he / it tries to do what's best according to what it knows. It ended up with a psych problem because it was given conflicting directives. Very human, actually.

@lauren Kind of like Nomad and its campaign against "carbon units". Then there's Colossus, which is much more complicated to analyze in terms of good versus bad. Colossus assumes a role like the Guardians in Day the Earth Stood Still, "Stop making war or we'll destroy you."

I want to make a test on the % reach a post can have in terms of people in other servers. Are you seeing this post on mastodon.gamedev.place or another server? (Appreciate if you can boost this).

How to Talk About Diversity & Inclusion With People Who Disagree

Ask them to define terms and help you to understand. Communication often fails when participants don’t agree to the definitions of certain terms and end up talking past one another. If you can agree on certain terms at the start of the conversation, you’ve already accomplished common ground and the communication may be more respectful and effective.

@olavf Yeah, went there with to explore with my parents in the early 1960s. Then a couple more times with my wife and kids in the 1980s. Fascinating.

A thing I keep seeing on my feed: posts from white people being so proud of themselves for how inclusive, kind, and welcoming the Mastodon community is.

A thing I don't see: posts from Black people talking about how inclusive, kind, and welcoming Mastodon is.

Don't declare victory against hatred without checking in with the victims of hatred.

Just saw “tradition is peer pressure from the dead” and I chuckled aloud as someone who has very very few holiday traditions.

@swrogers Come to think of it, today is a week. I had threatened to do it Sunday the 20th, but didn't actually do it until last Wednesday the 23rd.

@lauren Definitely agree they shouldn't act prematurely, especially since I expect that pressure from the EU will increase, which will help both of them justify a ban. But it seems they must ultimately act or their terms of service will be revealed as a paper tiger.

They should give Donald Trump’s tax returns to Justice Alito so everyone will know what’s in them.

@swrogers It's been almost a week now and, as I've said before, it genuinely shocks me that I don't miss it.

Boost this toot if you're planning on sticking around Mastodon whether or not it becomes more popular than the birdsite.

@vwbusguy No computer is complete without working versions of Adventure and Zork. Which reminds me, I have to get it going on a new notebook I just configured.

OK, now for the feature presentation. Zork3! And, it works, too!

I might make a backup copy of the two working programs before seeing how long it takes me to get eaten by a Grue, but I'm looking forward to playing this on a superior keyboard to my #Commodore64. #retrogaming
