BREAKING: The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has ADVANCED legislation to SEIZE Russian assets to fund Ukraine. 🇺🇦

@dangillmor Unbelievable. Although "conservative" has taken on a new meaning in the past 40 years.
There are no traditional conservatives in all of Congress. The GOP adopted the word and harp on it constantly because they know people like it.
NEW: "The Russian porn guy that gave Tя☭mp’s Truth Social $8M to stay afloat is the nephew of a former Putin staffer and has been charged by the SEC for insider trading.
I couldn’t write that shit if I tried, y’all." --m.s.w.

@karlauerbach Yes, including Covid fog, my case. But this was visual. Hah.
@Sheril Yes, polar and non-polar just will not get along. Lmao.
Well, that was interesting. I was just out walking an errand. I've been in fog, entered fog, watched fog move, been out on the Venice Pier in Los Angeles countless times at midnight, fishing, and watched fog roll in. But I've never had fog form around me. I thought maybe my eyes were acting up or something.
No wind, temp is 47F, dewpoint 46F, so a slight variation in temperature or barometric pressure is all it takes.
@TruthSandwich Yes. I just hope people see that the game has changed and the players have changed.
@panamared27401 Good point. Her voters don't want to hear the truth. She has several reasons not to explain the truth.
@panamared27401 Fix it as President? How? Is she aware of Separation of Powers?
The president can't do anything with Congress except sign or veto legislation and get on his or her knees and plead. The president can't even go to Congress and speak unless invited.
In 1978, one of the greatest discoveries of lost media in history took place in the remote Yukon town of Dawson City, Canada.
After demolishing the down's decrepit, half-century-old skating rink, workers discovered that it had been built on top of a pile of wooden boxes packed into an even older swimming pool. Inside the boxes were 1,100 reels of extremely delicate nitrate film from the 1910s and '20s.
Nitrate film is famously flammable, which is why so many of the movies that were recorded on it are lost today. But packed under ice and earth, the Dawson City hoard survived the decades shockingly well. Of 1,100 reels, 527 were still playable.
Terra-Gen and Mortenson have announced the activation of the "Edwards & Sanborn Solar + Energy Storage project",
the largest solar-plus-storage project in the United States.
The project is a true renewable energy behemoth, spanning 4,600 acres, comprised of 1.9 million US-made First Solar panels.
It holds a capacity of 875 MWdc solar, and nearly 3.3 GWh of energy storage. It has a 1.3 GW interconnection capacity.
California’s grid is expected to receive enough electricity to power the equivalent of about 238,000 homes from the project. This leads to an estimated 320,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions abated annually.
The energy storage is made up of LG Chem, Samsung, and BYD batteries.
This feat of engineering required 98 miles of MV Wire, over 361 miles of DC wiring, and 120,720 batteries.
Edwards & Sanborn is partially located on the Edwards Air Force Base in Kern County, California, a hub for many of the largest solar projects in the United Staes.
It represents the largest public-private collaboration in US Department of Defense history.
Since 2020, more than 1,000 craftworkers contributed to the project, and it was executed with more than a million hours of injury-free labor

A shadowy new organization attacking the climate efforts of Canadian cities is infiltrating Google searches and ads in the New York Times and other publications online.
The group — Voice for Energy — bills itself as a platform for Canadians to "speak up" against municipalities implementing measures to reduce or ban natural gas to "protect" people’s so-called "energy choice."
The group keeps its provenance secret, with no phone numbers or staff listed on its website.
A search of its metadata through the Whois database reveals the domain name was created in April 2023, but any information that could identify the website's owners is redacted.
Last week, some Canadian New York Times readers were greeted with an ad from the organization targeting Burnaby, B.C.'s recent decision to ban gas hook-ups in new buildings.
Canadian Google users have also been targeted by the group, as reported by DeSmog reporter Geoff Dembicki and according to the platform's ad transparency database.
Those ads have been running Canada-wide since mid-October accompanied by photos of diverse, happy-looking families. The most recent ad was published on Jan. 10, 2024.
"It is a fear campaign. They're trying to get people scared that if we don't keep natural gas, then we won't have reliable electricity," said Julien Beaulieu, a Université de Sherbrooke lecturer.
"That's what this campaign is about. It is about making people scared of renewables

@TruthSandwich And in the past it was very easy in the USA to be an apathetic voter and trust things would be okay. Thirty years and longer ago you could trust Americans to vote their pocketbook (rational self-interest) and safely assume that anyone reaching high political office was patriotic, educated, and rational. Otherwise, for various reasons, they would not have been tolerated in the halls of government.
But that's all in the past. We now have voters who act like cult members and do not vote their self-interest, and we have candidates that are outright criminals.
It's not the same game. Can't sit this one out and assume everything will be basically okay.
Born in 1896, biochemist Gerty Theresa Cori became the 1st woman to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (and the 3rd to win a Nobel Prize).
Cori faced gender discrimination & was marginalized for years. But she never gave up.
With her husband Carl, she discovered how glycogen is broken down & eventually stored as an energy source (aka the “Cori cycle”). They also identified the Cori ester. http://beckerexhibits.wustl.edu/women/cori.htm #HistoryRemix #science #history
The deadliest earthquake in recorded history occurred on this day, January 23 in 1556. Taking an estimated 830,000 lives, some counties lost nearly 60% of their residents.
Can you guess where this event took place?

@EugeneMcParland It's an easy decision for me. It's also an easy decision for Republicans, the party now composed of people who like the idea of dictatorship, aggression, and cruelty towards people they don't like.
Be clear that among today's Republicans, cruelty is the point.
