I feel like the fact that Ethel & Julius Rosenberg got the chair for far less than what Donald Trump has done should be a bigger story.

@jeffjarvis The part that bothers me the most is... what exactly did these lawyers think their clients were paying them for? If they really thought that just letting ChatGPT do their job for them was legitimate, why wouldn't their clients just do that themselves instead of paying a lawyer an absurd amount of money to do it for them? That alone seems like it should be enough to prove dereliction of duty.

FFS. He literally bragged on tape to journalists about his crimes.

It's insane that this is the level of evidence it takes to indict rich white men in America.

I have to disagree with @maddow - I don't think the indictment of Donald Trump is a new low for American politics.

I believe it is a new HIGH. Donald Trump isn't the first corrupt politician, he's just the first corrupt politician - at his scale - to actually face justice for being so corrupt.

Other countries don't see following the law as a low as we apparently do. I know that wasn't Rachel's point.

But, America prosecuting a white political class for its democracy-hating corruption is a glorious step forward.

@evilmicrowizard @PandaChronicle My post wasn't taking issue with the main point ("not speaking ill of the dead" is outdated and useless), but rather with the justification the OP used for it.

Panda came in to try to argue that main point (that I never refuted!), thus preaching to the choir. He tried to argue with me about a point that we don't even disagree on.

@charlotteclymer While I agree that "not speaking ill of the dead" is an outdated maxim, I don't buy the argument that "the evil guy we all hate did this thing, so that justifies us doing it to him."

What the fuck? has a sponsored ad for a Trump 2020 flag when looking at the listing for a pride flag.

@lomanfeusagach @briannawu Well, yeah, they are "fine", because their wealth helps them avoid any accountability whatsoever.

@fishecon I recently heard an ad on the radio from a diamond company complaining that people were buying lab-grown diamonds and they shouldn't because those "lose their value far quicker than real diamonds".

And, it's like, yeah, we know real diamonds command higher prices, but only because you hold them back in a vault to create fake value. Whereas with the fake diamonds we literally pay for what we get and receive an exact exchange of real value. Why would anyone want to pay more for what the diamond companies are holding back?

These people have been running a scam on humanity for hundreds of years now. Their time is over.

@jann Yes, that's been his entire strategy for Trump so far. He makes the occasional snide remark kicking Trump when he's down, but other than that, he just postures himself as the capable culture warrior to contrast against Trump's incompetent culture warrior reputation.

@jann That sounds consistent with what I see here in Orlando. I do still see Trump flags, but I see way more DeSantis merch.

But I think it's way more likely DeSantis will go mostly hands-off and just watch Trump implode with the rest of us.

@jann That seems rather far-fetched to me. Underestimating your opponents can be a dangerous strategy.

@jann He would do all of that anyway. How does the location of the indictment factor into that at all?

@danielnazer The problem for him is that Florida Man lives in the country and rarely ventures into the cities.

@Pellitory@c.im Do you really not see the juxtaposition of describing people celebrating the death of a fellow human being as "compassionate and sensitive"?

I think men like Robertson are responsible for the hardening of many LGBTQ people's sense of compassion. And now, even in death, he's inspiring them to dehumanize their enemies and celebrate their death.

As for me, I won't give him the satisfaction of sinking to his level. And I'm just disappointed by how few of my community stand with me on that.
